Default Nail Clipping Help!!

Would someone please give me a step-by-step instruction on how to desensitize a dog so I can clip his nails. My pup is terrified of the nail clipper & would growl when he sees one

This looks like a good step by step article:

I find it helps when the dog is sleepy and relaxed.

No. Just when I touch his paws while holding a clipper. Other than that he allows me to inspect his whole body without any problems.

try using a demel on low speed. I dont use clippers I use a dremel tool much easier less trouble for both you and the dog.

here is a great site on how to use a dremel.

since you can handle his feet no problem, i'd start getting the clippers out and just letting them lay around in places he likes to be and rewarding him for being around them. it seems silly, but associating nail trimmers and treats will help you out in the long run.

once he'll willingly hang out around the nail trimmers, hold them in your hand while you treat him. just hold. don't try to get them near his feet at first. when that's all good, move them towards his feet and touch his feet with them. not clip. just touch. treat treat treat. then you can move on to trimming nails and treating like crazy.

it may take awhile, but i think it's really worthwhile to do.

peanutbutter on a tongue depressor made a world of difference in teaching mushroom to tolerate nail trimming. but that boy is ruled by his stomach
