Default Lucas before and after shave

I don't think I've ever showed you guys the pics of Lucas before my mother shaved him!

Him before being shaved (his wieght was about the same... his coat just was so fluffy it made him look fat)

And Lucas after:

Thanks

That last one is actually months after my mother shaved him. She shaved him to only a few inches of fur!! He was completley white and it looked horrible! I told her not too but she didn't listen. His coat never fully grew back after that...now it's pretty short and lays flatter.

I always thought Lucas looked a bit less puffy than most Malamutes I'd seen.

I know you did. Most people say he is a husky because his fur is not so puffy and is so short now. I had one person today on our morning walk sit and argue with me that she "Know's what a husky looks like and what a Malamute looks like and he was NO malamute!" Not to mention how freaking huge he is his structure just is not a sibe! He is far too bulky, although in his pictures he doesn't look it, but face to face you can see there is no way he is a sibe even with the fur the way it is.

Yeah, most northern spitz breeds are the same way. I've always heard that if you have a double coated spitz breed to never shave them.

Obviously, some people still do, but then the coat never grows back the same way...sometimes the color totally changes...and the "guard" hairs (they are the long hairs that protect the coat from the outer elements) sometimes take years and years to come back, if they ever do.

The double coat may look like it would be too hot for the dog in the summer, but in reality it protects from heat as well as cold.

He's a VERY handsome boy either way.
