I don't know whether to believe this or not? What does everyone think about it? I am referring to the section about dog food...

Bah... I think it is crap.
Sure, there are bad foods out there, but not all of them are bad. It sounds like they are trying to guilt trip owners into buying that book. |

I agree that they're trying to make you buy the book and that not all commercial dog foods are bad, but I certainly don't think it's all a load of crap. Most commercial dog foods are horrible. Nothing wrong with them trying to educate people (even if they are a little extreme).
Cass.

Many of the points made on that site are absolutely valid.
It is for example correct that - commercial dry food has not been around for very long yet. It has only been widely available since after WW2. - the human food industry (especially convenience foods) also had a big boom after WW2 and companies needed to do something with the masses of byproducts. - many pet foods include meat from "4D" livestock, and even worse - roadkill, euthanized pets and recycled restaurant waste. - kibble is sprayed with fat to make it palatable. If that weren't the case, dogs wouldn't find it very attractive at all. Especially poor quality kibble also requires other flavoring agents, such as digests. - BHA and BHT are banned as food preservatives in Europe. - it doesn't take rocket science to feed your dog home prepared food, regardless whether you choose to feed raw or cooked.

I think most of the information on that site is valid, considering the number of dogs I've seen follow it, and how much healthier they are than the commercial pet food they were eating. A LOT of low-quality pet food fits the descriptions on that site.
Some people can't feed BARF because they just don't have the time to prepare it, and there are dog foods out there that are BARF based which have a great effect on the dog just like the diet itself. |
