he knows so many tricks but crawl is the only one that he will not do no matter what...
i tried keeping my hand on his back and calling him so when he would try to tand he would stay in a crawl possision but he is to stubborn and doesnt care how many treats he gets out of it... Last edited by Senna; 08-15-2006 at 07:07 PM. |

You should try to set him up so his only option is to crawl, and reward that. I tried the "hold the dog dog and call him to you" thing and it didn't work for me either.
Instead I made a channel of chairs and set my dog up at the other end (on a leash) and called him to me...his only option was to crawl! Heres a little video so it makes a little more sense... (just click on it)

i tried it and it seems to work!!!thanx...i could only give him a half treat b/cause he recently came from the vets and cant eat that much so i have to take it step by step day by day...
EDIT:if you say crawl to him without the chairs will he crawl?? |

Sit, Lay, Down, Crawl. Once in the down position, with a treat handy, say "crawl" and move the treat away from Rascals face (still very close to the ground). Rascal should scoot/crawl towards the treat. Even if he only moves a few inches or a foot, tell him 'good crawl Rascal' and give the treat before he breaks the "crawl" stance.

I only had to do the chair thing once or twice for him to understand...but some dogs might take a bit more repetition. After your dog connects crawling with the command crawl you can slowly remove the chairs!
