Vic Mary and i met two pharoh hounds at the off leash dog park in Shawnee Kansas. http://www.chazhound.com/pictures/sh...00&ppuser=2623

They were outstanding, well behaved, obviously well cared for. Vic had met his match when it came to the catch me if you can game he so loves to play. He ran so hard and they ran behind him as if they were out for a stroll. This was a first time for him to struggle to stay ahead, and i think they were just letting him "think" he was keeping his gain. When he got home his muscles quivered for more then an hour and he slept hard for the rest of the day.

There are not many rare breeds at all in my area, that I meet on a daily basis :P it feels like 90% of dog owners have Labs, Goldens, Chi's & Yorkies, which are wonderful pups, anyway. I guess it's because I'm so much in the suburbs.

The rarest breed I've met was 2 Dogo Argentino's, who our previous neighbor had. They were SO sweet! Their breeder was on the east coast, and they flew out there to see them and pick up a puppy twice from the same breeder. I see lots of breeds at dog shows, but I don't really count that =0)

I have seen..

Caanan Dogs (King could pass for one except he's a little big)
Pharoh Hound (2 neighbors used to have them)
Bracco Italiano (I really like them)
Spinone (A neighbor had one till recently, really nice dog, King's favorite)
Grand Bleu de Gascogne (My last dog's biggest "bud")
Rhodesian Ridgeback (tons at the local dog shows, I've only seen one near me)
Flat Coated Ret. (One of my dog King's buds)
Gordon Setter
Beauceron (Suddenly they are turning up nearby)
Basenji (One is at the vet for skin issues all the time, HATES King, but King thinks he's great!)
Bluetick Coonhounds (One loves King, one hates him)
Greater Swiss Mountain Dog (If I ever get a purebred dog again, this will probably be the breed)

I used to teach dog classes, so I've seen quite a few. Some of the more rare breeds:

Bedlington Terrier (my first dog, plus I had one in class)
Appenzellers (Four of them)
Glen of Imaal Terriers (two)
Mudis (two)
German Pinchers (two)
Chinook (one)
Spanish Water Dog (one)
Kuvasz (one)
American Bulldog (one)
American Water Spaniel (two)
Borzoi (one)
Shiloh sheperd (two)
Leonberger (two)
Tibetan Terrier (two)
Tibetan Spaniel (one)

Of all of them, I really liked the Appenzellers, although they were tough dogs. The Kuvasz and American Bulldog were way too much dog for their owners, and were purchased for looks. Bedlingtons, of course, are close to my heart, but the others didn't dazzle me.

Now to find my Lundehund!

I've met:

-Flat-Coated retriever
-Two Clumber Spaniels (which are a lot bigger than I would've thought)
-Cane Corso
- Neopolitan Mastiff
-Portuguese Water Dog (not really rare around here)
-Great Pyrenees (I guess these are getting more popular, but...)
-A dog that MAY have been a Klee Kai - she looked exactly like one, but her owners called her a "mini Husky" and she was Shiba-sized.
-Enough Malinois to fill a bite suit. Again, not really rare, but not a dog the public has a lot of contact with.

I've met a shiba inu-which is pretty rare around here, I've only ever seen one person walking one in my life around here. I also saw a cane corso and a shikoku! I love their cat-like ears! I would love to go to a dog show and just admire all the lovely breeds.
