I mean if I leave for a long time I put him in the crate but 5 sec come on. he chewed one of my school book and I'm getting so mad at him. because if he chewed something he not to chew I yell at him and I give him the right toy. I think he just like my stuf to chew on. help him

When you have a puppy, you have to assume he's going to chew anything he can get his paws on. If you don't want it chewed, don't leave it where he can get it! Having a puppy or young dog is hard. You have to rearrange your life completely to keep him safe and to keep your stuff safe. Use your closets, shelves, and cabinets. If you leave something out, assume it's going to be destroyed!

I use to tell the customers that came to the kennels to pick up their lab puppy..to think of it the same as a toddler..everything goes in the mouth..especially if it smells like their favorite person in the world..that goes for phone cords and cd player headphones..as well as shoes and good grief what is it about books that makes such fun. We have a wooden box that everyone drops their shoes in when they take them off and it is shut so there is no worry about that..a box of their own toys is readily availble in everyroom so that nonono can be said when the dog is chewing on inappropriate things and can be replaced with good things. My old rocking chair has teeth marks from both canine and human (not in the same place) the dogs liked the bottom of the rocker, the children liked the top. If you think of your puppy the same as a small child you will keep your eyes on him (and your ears) at all times and know this is a special time..it will go very fast..you will miss it when it is gone. Bitter apple spray and gel in a tube is avaible at most pet stores and is benificial for extension cords (which i hope are all out of the way) and other things you wish to protect. It doesn't take very much and after one taste they generally never go back to try again.
Congrates on your puppy. I envy you! Victor my new dog was past that stage when i got him, and i wish i could have been a part of his life when he was so little.

I agree with what has been said. Also, make sure he has plenty of chew toys like Kongs and squeakies. Go to PetSmart on a shopping spree!

I had huge issues with my puppy chewing things too... Then I bought that product called 'bitter apple' and put it on the stuff he was chewing and he hasn't chewed anything bad for days now (he's not even 4 months old). It worked great!

But he still goes after the random things that are on the floor... So my best advice is to puppy proof all your rooms by making sure there is nothing he can reach. It's a pain, especially as they grow up, but it's the best really. Try to teach him the 'leave it' command too, by telling him to 'leave it' when he gets close to something you don't want him to chew, and reward him if he ignores it. Eventually he should know what areas he is not supposed to steal stuff from (I almost got him to ignore the laundery basket so far...).

Good luck! And I hope too that it will disappear when they grow up!

wow, I feel blessed. The only thing that my dogs ever chewed they weren't suppose to was the corner of the cabinet and a little piece of wood trim. I said no, sprayed bitter apple and now they haven't chewed on anything bad since. Although our new puppy has a flip flop fetish. All my flip flops have puppy teeth marks in them now. Oh well, he's just giving me something to remember him by when he's older!

Default Urge To Kill?

I have always had good luck by having rawhide chew flips all over the floor. And I always get the ones made in the USA. Rawhide from other countries has arsenic in it used to tan the hides. Also, you should never be out of sight of your puppy. Many people have used the umbilical cord method and say it works. Tie the leash around your waist and have the pup hooked to it. I would love to know if that would work. My home is too small to have to do it. And I kept everything off the floor the pups might have destroyed.

Good luck to you.
