What is the safest shampoo? I use Baby Shampoo as it smells good and gets the job done. What do you feel is the safest shampoo?

Make sure that you rinse thoroughly, any shampoo residue can cause skin irritation. And be extra careful around the eyes, nose, ears and groin. Getting soapy water into an opening can cause infections. |

Valkie gave you some good info. I've heard of using baby shampoo, but so far I stick to dog shampoo.

Mine get baby shampoo or even on occasion end up getting shampooed and conditioned with one of my organics I use on my own hair, lol. When I use a flea shampoo in the warm months I always use one with Neem instead of any other flea killing agent. The others make my hands and arms itch for days afterward, so I can imagine how harsh they are on the dogs' skin!
A mild conditioner after shampooing will help ensure that no soap residue stays on your dog's skin.

i always use a washcloth for around the muzzle, eyes, and ears..that way i never get soap in their eyes. We use the tub and nice warm water for Mary to soak her arthritic bones in. I always use conditioner too (the same as mine) so the soap will not dry out the coat and they smell good too. I have to wash my dogs often because of allergies and it doesn't seem to bother them a bit, plus my house never gets the doggy odor.

we like suave...all those different choices you know...my dogs smell so good. I think rinsing completely is the most important part, as long as all the soap is rinsed out it shouldn't make any difference in the condition of their skin.

we used baby shampoo on our Shih Tzu when he was younger than 12 weeks. we just bought some moisterizing doggy shampoo at the store the other day, but we've to busy to give him his weekly bath. its been about two weeks now. but he goes to the groomer for the first time on Sat. he needs the hair around his eyes trimed real bad. my wife usually tires to do it every other bath but its gotten to long and its getting in his eyes, making them tear up and stain his face.
