I am going to petsmart tomorrow to buy some stuff for my new dog and
I don't know what kind of shampoo and conditioner to get him. I looked on the petsmart website and I think Groomax looks good, but you can never tell. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing? ~Lily |

I'm using something called BioGroom Protein Lanolin. It's a shampoo/conditioner. It's about $20 for 355ml. It's the best stuff I've found so far. It's not very viscous and you don't have to use very much. It doesn't smell too bad either.
I also use the BioGroom Mink Oil conditioner after I bath them and everyday for that matter. It's got sunshield (So your dogs coat doesn't fade) and it has vitamin E. "Non-sticky, non-greasy, essential for dry, dull coats" Quote from bottle. The pair will cost around $40 bucks but it's definitely worth it, if you want your dog to have a gorgeous coat! |

Look at the ingredient list of the shampoos at the store. The less ingredients they have that you can barely pronounce, the better. (Examples: Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Lauryl methyl gluceth-10 hydroxypropyldimonium, chlorideCocamide DEA, Isopropl Alcohol, Polyquarternium-10, Retinyl Propionate, Quarternium-15, Propylparaben, FD&C Blue 1, Propylene Glycol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben...)

Mordy, is there any shampoo out there that has omega 6 in it to help promote a healthy coat as well as not to dry the skin out??

Oatmeal is supposed to be a natural antiseptic helps relieve itching and scaling of the skin. Or at least that's what I was told

I use a mild one, made by Johnson and Johnson.
I have heard (but never tried) that cracking a raw egg over thier food once a week does wonders for thier coats. Baileys coat however seems just fine as it is. Just out of interest, how often does everyone bathe thier dogs?

Not often. When they smell or need it pretty bad.
Mordy, do you have more information (links? books?) about shampoo ingredients? This has sparked an interest in me; why am I buying hypoallergenic shampoo if some of the ingredients aren't at all natural and could be effecting my dogs skin as well? |

A really good shampoo is Buddy Wash. I loooove the smell and it makes a dirty dog feel so soft.

I bath them maybe twice a year planned, but if they stink (like Roxy did) I'll give them a quick wash. But I spray them probably 3 times a week.
