Default Pant (tree?) Identification Help

I asked on FB but I'll as here too because I'm curious.

This plant (tree?) all of a sudden has taken over our yard out of the blue. As soon as the weather got warmer and the snow melted they sprung up by the thousands all over our yard and I have no idea what they are or why they are suddenly everywhere.

We didn't get a new tree, nothing was different that I know of.

Anyone know what they are?

They sort of look like boxelders to me, but a botanist I am not.

Its hard to tell when they are little and I am not good with trees, but those look exactly like the oak trees we get all over the place, especially since they dropped a bumper crop of acorns last year here.

Maple tree seedlings. If you leave them long enough they'll start to get that more maple tree leaf shape. They took over my backyard too and I've painstakingly been pulling them in sections at a time. I don't know why they're so abundant this year... normally we get a couple but TONS this year. Maybe the abnormally cold and wet winter had something to do with it??

ETA: They come from these guys:

I think you're right! Thanks so much.

It's crazy how many there are, we never get any but the entire yard is bathed in them this year. So weird.

Ah yes, at the park we go to there is a huge maple tree and I have NEVER seen so any seedlings coming off as I did this year. The kids loved it as every time the wind blew there were thousands of helicopters fluttering through the air.
