- I need to be close - within 2 hours - to a variety of dog sports, including good IPO clubs (would consider PSA), USDAA agility, dockdogs, flyball, AKC obedience, rally, and coursing, and barn hunt.
- multiple hiking options within an hour's drive with trails over 5 miles in length if possible
- COL in general isn't a huge issue, but we would like to be able to find a house with a yard and ideally at least an acre to *buy* soon after moving. We don't have a million in the bank for this and don't want to have to buy bulletproof glass, either.

!

1) You will not be able to find an acre in either of those cities without a starting fund of 2 million dollars, minimum, and it'd be hard to find an acre with 2 million.

2) San Jose, the closest dog sport stuff is 3+ hours away (I am struggling with this issue too, and I'm a little closer than San Jose to the dog sport stuff.) The closest stuff is in Sacramento (North CA) or in South CA (LA area) but the Bay Area is literally devoid of dog sport stuff, even if it is dog friendly.

Well if y'all are willing to handle the COL or he is coming out to play with some of the Big Guns of Tech...

HUGE agility scene with heavy USDAA including Nancy Gyes/Jim Basic's school, Power Paws.

Barn Hunt's getting big around here, lure coursing happens regularly.

IPO is a little skimpy compared with Mondio/French but you are the area of Michael Ellis and Francis Metcalf.

DockDogs is harder to find. Lots of Splash Dogs and there's a new regional group. We just don't have time for dock diving much these days.

Flyball? You could race with the East Bay Ballers - they are a little far away (probably about 2 hours door to door) but I have first hand knowledge they are pretty rad

Boston! Great public transportation, very liberal, lots to do, lots of dog training places in the area, hiking places, and then you'd live near me, yaaaay!

LOL you guys are so helpful.

DH is in electrical engineering, so he's looking at tech hubs basically.

So Fran and RBark - why the discrepancy?! LOL Is it just that some types of sports are hard to find?

Those in Boston - how far away would someone have to live to find a house on 0.5+acre for less than 500k?
