Default Beeping?

When you go over to someone's house, do you beep to get their attention or do you take the time to get out of your car and ring their doorbell?

I thought this was a basic etiquette thing, but it's pretty normal in my neighborhood to hear car horns trying to get someone's attention.

Neither - text or call

I've never seen someone honk in real life for that purpose. Just on TV lol.

Honking instead of coming up to the door is super rude.

I should have put that in the options, sorry.

I never did until I moved here. It's mostly one neighbor on particular, but I've been listening to it all evening

Nope. In my neighbourhood, honking the horn is what you do when selling/buying drugs to/from someone.
If you're just out with a friend, texting is fine. Or calling.
On a date, always go to the door

That ^

If it's someone I know well, and it's super cold I'm not getting out of my car darnit! I usually call or text in that instance. If it's not someone I'm super familiar with I go to the door.

I always call or text. I only actually go up to the door if I plan on going in... but I still call/text before to let them know I'm there. LOL.

I would never honk, that is super rude. I hardly even honk in traffic situations where I have the right to honk. LOL.

I think it's super rude too, unless you're like in a major hurry and have made a deal "Okay I'll pull up and honk!!" and they're going to run out the door when you do.

My next door neighbour's daughter does this all the time, she pulls up and honks for her mom to come out so they can go shopping. ALL the time! And I always think it's so rude. I mean, I know them, they are nice people and not rude... so it baffles me when it happens...

The only time I've ever honked the horn while sitting in the driveway was to a.) Scare my siblings who were walking in front of me or b.) tell someone inside to hurry their butts up because I'm waiting, have been waiting for the past five minutes, and we need to GO. (Usually happens when we're going to a family get together and are car pooling, and someone is insidd being pokey.)

I don't think I'd ever honk at a place that wasn't my own home. I'd call/text or ring the doorbell.
