Pickles is not doing well today. She's not eating and her anemia has gotten worse. She is also sleeping a lot. The vet did an xray and didn't find anything but part of her intestines are enlarged. The vet is changing antibiotics to see if that makes a difference. The house is so much quieter without those two--I don't like it at all. Even with Yoda and Solo--they just don't make the same noise that the white wings do. Solo seems to be trying to do his part via a near constant stream of whistles, clicks, and sound effects (which is greatly appreciated, I don't know what I'd do with no bird noise), but it's just not the same.

Just seeing this....I'm so sorry for your loss of Kiwi Sending prayers for Pickles and prayers for the doc to figure out the problem and treat her properly before it's too late.

Hopefully the change in antibiotics will help. Do they have any idea about what the cause might me, or are they just treating the symptoms at this point? I'm sorry that you are having to go through this

They are treating the symptoms-they seem stumped as to what actually is wrong. Pickles was actually more alert tonight than I've seen her since she's been sick. She still dozed a bit, but she climbed onto her perch, was stretching, and has about a 10 minute long grooming session. She also seems more alert to sounds around her. The sounds of barking in the dog ward next door actually woke her from her dozing when she didn't even budge before. I'm pretty sure I've become known in the clinic as the crazy lady who comes in and stares at her bird for an hour every night.

I'm hopeful, but afraid to be hopeful because she seemed to be perking up before then went downhill quickly. She needs to eat more on her own too.

I did get some pics to show DH how she is doing...This is the most alert she's been all week...

We buried Kiwi at my parents house today. It was very sad, even my mom cried. The world is poorer for having lost such a vibrant little soul. I'm very thankful we were not burying two birds though.

DH and I went and saw Pickles this morning. She actually vocalized at us once (which she has not done yet), and when I asked her to step up threatened to nip me. Although she was back in the corner when we got there, her droppings indicated she had been up on the perch most if the morning. The vet said she had gained a couple of grams. There were food crumbs around her bowl but we can't really say that she is eating as much as she needs to be. She is still napping during the day to. She is definitely still sick, but seems to be coming around. I'm feeling cautiously hopeful. I just want her to act like Pickles again rather than a weak, sick birdie.
