I just got finished visiting Pickles. She is eating pretty well considering, and the vet said she has been much more alert today. Her droppings are starting to look more normal too. She did seem better than yesterday and she was grooming herself for a little bit. Pickles definitely is not herself though-she is much sleepier than normal. I'm sure she is also very lonely. She has never spent a night without any other birds. She was with her clutch when we got her and Kiwi and they have been together ever since up until now.

They gave me Kiwi's body back. They warned me that he (they discovered he was in fact male) would look matted since they had to spray him with disinfectant when they opened him up. The vet did stitch him but I don't want to look at him. I want to remember Kiwi as the ornery, noisy, vibrant little life that he was, not as he is now.

Since Sheena died I've always imagined her in a warm, spacious valley with her buds. Today I was thinking of a forest in that valley with Kiwi skittering around the trees with other birds. I actually had the thought today "I'm glad Kiwi's wings had grown out before he passed so that he could go to the hereafter fully flighted." How silly is that?

I went to see Pickles tonight and while her blood work looks better, I was alarmed at how lethargic she seemed. She wasn't perching at all and would doze and lean forward, almost resting on her bill. The vet seemed concerned too when I pointed it out to her.

Ugh, things had been looking so good. I really hope it was nothing more than stress from the blood draw. *worries*

Oh no, not the update I was hoping for. =< Maybe she's just stressed from being at the vet's office? Poor Pickles. I hope she makes a recovery soon.

No, the vet still doesn't have any idea, it's so frustrating.
