Default Another word for stay?

What is a good command I can use to rework Mia's stay? Her stay has basically turned into what Summer's 'wait' is. It's not a strict do not move, it just means hang back where I told you to. So we've dealt with creeper dog issues and I finally decided the command is poisoned and we just need to build from ground up.

I can't think of a good word.

Side note: teaching Mia stay is the absolute hardest thing I've ever taught a dog to do.

I can't think! The only thing I can think of is halt or stop but neither one of those words really mean "stay" when you're talking English. Ok, sorta, I don't really know. I guess you could use whatever word you wanted. It would be funny if "go" meant stay. Haha!

My dogs are probably so confused! Stay means stay and then stop or wait mean to hurry, stop what you're doing, and stand there.

I use 'wait' for my formal stay.

You could use place, or something like that?

I use freeze. I don't really like it, but it works and it's not a word I use all the time. Wait is our "hang tight right there, you'll get released in a second and then I want SPEED" command and freeze is our long term "chill there, we're going to be here awhile" command.

I am sometimes completely inconsistent and use hold it when I want them to stay still for a second but I don't want to have to reset them if they break a wait. Dog trainer of the year, right here.

Mia has a wait and a stay but they seem to mean the same thing to her. I know I could use whatever word but I have to remember it and I want it to make some sort of logical sense to me lol. Halt might work.

I like when the stay is implied through the sit/down/stand cue.

Yeah, Penn knows sit or down means stay there until you here your release word. I do like the word freeze for it as well. My next dog will have freeze as the stay command!

Briar's stay command is stay ..but his release word is way. I'm so glad he has good listening ears because those two are easily confused!
