But I want purebred dogs from good breeders.

I am definitely having a First World Problem conundrum. :/
You can *totally* hate other people's adolescent puppies and love your own. If I had to watch Abrams for a few days I'd go nuts - but since he's mine and I've had him since a baby, he's just fine to live with.

But...I didn't even really like my own? I mean, well, I LOVED her...but I was so much happier once she was more mature.

SO proud of my little mongrel Rig!!!!
Cobain or Ruby caught a squirrel today, but they broke into the front yard to catch it (like 2 feet past the fence, if that). As soon as they broke the boundary, Rigby stopped her chase, turned around and came to the door

Stray dog will never respect a boundary eh???

Also proud of my brat dog finally catching a squirrel. Nearly took him 8 years, but it happened. Maybe now they will take the hint and stop with the house/yard infestation. I'd like to watch BIRDS at my bird feeders thank you.

(And yes RIP poor squirrel, I'm not entirely heartless)

I'm not huge on puppies either. I got Roxie just as she turned a year old. Buddy I raised from a puppy and after her, I had wanted an adult... Roxie was lucky she made the age mark. Although, I do want NextDog (a JRT) as a puppy, since it will most likely be from a breeder- unless I go through rescue, then I'd like young adult (1-3yrs)

Why not just look for an older placement? In shelties I could find at least a dozen older dogs/pups that breeders kept to grow out and they didn't turn out for one reason or another (usually the dog got too big for the ring or just too big for their likes in their program.)

That would be the ideal situation. I guess I just always think that finding that, and having it be a dog that I like, would be really hard.

To this day, trading is the only way one can safely remove a high value object from Chloe...it's hit and miss without trading. And it hasn't in any way reinforced her resource guarding. If anything its helped because she knows we aren't going to take away her chew - she chooses to give us her chew for another awesome thing.

Definitely work with him on it, and I'd avoid giving him the high value items if there is any chance he may become possessive. Chloe only gets chews when contained in another room.
Thanks for the advice Maxy and Blackrose!
I will try to keep a good balance and definitely do lots of trading.

Lol, I just withheld his dinner for an hour, just to make his food higher value than the chew. I then planned on doing trading with the chew and a handful of food each time. Well, I apparently know my dog too well and overdid it, cause now he won't even touch the chew because he wants the food so bad

I think the biggest thing with this is you have to be open to different breeders/dogs being used. If you only want from x breeder or out of x,y,z dogs it would be hard.
