I get asked ALL THE TIME how much I spent on a dog when it's a puppy. I've probably been asked about Patton a million times. But when they grow up no one seems to care anymore?

No one thought the $250 for Frag was much, but we spent over $2000 on him in the first year of his life on medical bills, so really he was a $2250 dog!

I get asked constantly by random strangers. Constantly. I don't know if it's her looks or what ..although, I've also had people argue with me that she's a mixed breed/ shelter dog. People are weird.

No one ever asks how much Gimmick cost. Got him for free, but I did lots of snooping and tracked down his breeder, so I know his previous owner paid $750 for him. I think most people just assume he's a mutt

I've always assumed that was part of it. I've had random people come up to me on walks/in the park and say 'Aren't those expensive dogs?' or 'How much do dogs like that cost?'

Err.... depends on where you get them?

People's jaw drop when they find out how CHEAP Outlaw was !!!

I paid 350 for him.
Apparently Labs normally go for 600-800 down here with AKC papers, shots, de-worming and from hunting lines?

People ask me ALL the time and ask for the breeder's info as well......

All said and done, $65 Riff became nearly $3000 Riff (so far... knock on wood...) All that for my spastic, somewhat fearful mutt that most people would probably pay to get away from Whatever, I love my little man, and it's not their money!

My "fancy" purebred was $350 from a rescue, vetted, neutered & chipped. Totally worth it IMO but I would bet some people think that's way too much for a "second hand dog" Because all worth comes from raising them as a puppy, right?

The two older Schnauzers were $700 from a breeder, Lincoln was $350 from a byb, Charlie cost me $100 and an old cell phone, and Nimbus will be $50 once I finalize the adoption (woot half priced adotions for staff).

Bristol was $500, that wasn't even 1/4 of what they spent to get a nine month old rescued Shih tzu through the unknown pregnancy though.

Diesel was free to good home.

Gage was free to good home as well...then cost us $7000 in TPLO surgeries.
