Default Cardiac Arrhythmia// Atrial fibrillation

Disclaimer

Please if I have you on Facebook don't mention this there, I don't want a bunch of sympathy from people.... I'm comfortable sharing here because, frankly I don't have to see you guys IRL if that makes sense?

Had a bad day yesterday... had an awful spell at work, short of breath and dizzy, pain under the bottom of my ribcage, thought it was a panic attack but my boss insisted I check it out.. went to my Dr who sent me to Hospital.... its arrhythmia, there's a cardiac specialist here, he basically said its my lucky warning and that I should take a baby aspirin daily (there are prescription options but they're $$ and not proven to work any better) and also a prescription drug called Tambocor.. I have to quit smoking and loose weight (At least 75lbs!!)

I'm a tad freaked out but he said this is actually a good thing because in women especially its as common to go from arrhythmia to heart attack with no symptoms or warnings... He said this was like putting a gun to my head with 4 chambers and only two empty..... That I was seriously lucky I got a warning most women my age, weight and stress level who smoke aren't as lucky...

I'm majorly freaking out... I'm not even 40 yet!!!

I'm wondering if anyone's dealt with this?

Be careful! Watch for signs of blood clots. My aunt had a stroke soon after they discovered hers and I can't believe they didn't put her on blood thinners. Did they talk of putting you on any if you don't convert? Or converting you?

Thinking of you!

Aspirin is an anticoagulant/blood thinner.

Take care of yourself, Laura.

Yeah, I've heard from a few Dr's that 2 baby aspirins a day is basically like taking 1 plavix a day.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I hope you are doing ok, you just seem to always have something pretty major going on as of late.

I usually see people on coumadin. My aunt was on a daily aspirin, as many are now.

Interesting about the plavix and two aspirin being equal. People could save a ton if they don't have ins.

I'm feeling a bit better, was feeling very doom and gloom earlier....

And yes it's 2 baby aspirin and a prescription called Tambocor

I just don't want to talk about it to many people IRL because I'm not comfortable with pity/ sympathy or being the centre of attention.... It's different here somehow...

My Dr did say, once (hopefully) life settles and my stress load is reduced it will be a very good thing!!!

OMG how scary! I also smoke & am also not even 40 yet, I also have a history of heart disease & HPB. I have also noticed that my diastolic BP has been above 80 lately, not sure what that means. I feel fine & exercise daily.

Still how scary for you! kind of a good thing in a way you had those symptoms, at least now you know & can treat it.

Something random I learned from the doc a few weeks ago is that you can dissolve baby aspirin under your tongue and it will absorb directly into your bloodstream that way, which is useful if you tend to get ulcers when you're stressed.
