I guess each to there own, though.
I'm not realistically getting another dog anytime soon though so I fail to see the issue in pondering future dogs. We ALL tend to talk about our future dogs or thoughts on future dogs on here and somehow it seems that whenever I bring up a "possible" future dog someone always makes a comment about it which is a big part of why I'm not as active on this forum as I used to be. It's not like I'm euthanizing Bamm tonight and then running out to get a dog tomorrow. Hell even if it comes down to me having to make any decisions regarding Bamm I still will NOT be running out to get another dog anytime soon. I really don't see the harm in pondering dogs down the road.

I probably won't be getting a dog until one of my pit bulls die. That doesn't mean I hope they croak sooner than later. I know what I want but even I occasionally dapple in thought wavering from my working bred Malinois to a Dutch, a GSD, a whippet, a koolie, a border terrier, etc. I understand why it feels wrong, you Should be mourning even the thought of losing Bamm but everyone deals with frustration and depression differently and thinking of better to come or things to look forward to days is one way. Then again, if you get another while with Bamm and a kid I will label you "crazy".

Fwiw I think you should get more crickets.

Haha if I could get another Cricket then screw more Ibizans haha. Jk I do love beezers, but seriously I have secretly contemplated cloning Cricket... Then again none of them would actually BE cricket Haha. She really is my perfect match.

I am big on letting things just fall into place and not making a super strict plan and following what your heart tells you to do we were on a waiting list for 3 yrs and things just kept going wrong. Then this oppurtnity fell in our lap and we jumped on it and things fell into place perfectly and we ended up with the perfect puppy <3 I know what my next breed will be but where it will come from I don't know and I know it will be many yrs also with the planning for a baby I agree with others..babies take up a huge amount of time, its so well worth it but they can drain you lol!

I am finally in a position to get a new dog, and all I want is my old poodle man. He doesn't check many/any boxes on my "wants" list, but he's been my buddy for the past 10 years, and since moving out, I realize just how great and easy he is compared to a new dog...

He's staying with me for the week while my parents are away, and they might have to fight me for him!

I still really want a dog that is able bodied and can go for long walks to the beach with me, but Nextdog can wait. Matrix, on the other hand, has an expiry date.

Yeah I was mostly talking about myself. I know I have a tendency to obsess. It really helps me to focus on the dogs now and less on the future. I also think once you really have a more solidified plan in place, the want is less.

There are just too many things going on right now that I need to figure out before next puppy comes along. Pretty much, I want to go to school. And I may have to move away to go to school. Going for your bachelors, and having a dog, plus a puppy, plus living away from DH = would not be easy. AT ALL. In addition, my favorite breeding pair was bred last year, and created just an AWESOME breeder pick, who if all goes well will be bred in two-three years. That would be my IDEAL dog. And, on top of that, I want to start Futurepuppy on cattle right away and with my resources right now, I just don't have the connections or my own to work him/her consistently. So, I decided to wait.

Sometimes, when you think you have it all figured out (and are Type A/ Plan, Plan, Plan to the brim), you don't. There was a short while when I first joined Chaz where I was just obsessed with Koolies. However, their herding style just didn't fit what I was looking for. I know it sounds silly that something like herding style would turn me away, but it does. I may still own a Koolie someday after I've met a few, but right now I'm hooked on the Cattle Dogs. And so far, they have lived up to everything I ever could have imagined.

Just take life as it comes, and go from there. You will know when the time is right.
I understand choosing or not choosing a herding breed based on herding style ... That's the reason why I chose the ACD above other breeds, that & their personality ... I love their personality .

When the time comes I look forward to seeing the pictures of your new ACD puppy
