Default The internet

I was thinking about what has changed since I was child in the 90s after reading the Venting Thread. My computer was without internet. The most distant my communications got was calling my friends and family in the neighboring states. The only place I could get the news was TV or the paper.

Today, I communicate with people that are in almost every state and across the world on various forums and sites. I could use Facebook to communicate with people anywhere on the planet. I read and watch the news online most of time and dislike most of what is on TV today. I do wonder how anyone survived without the internet.

Lol so true.. it seems so hard to wrap my head around things I've always had.

My mom was telling me about her and her friends going out, without cell phones and getting lost or something and I'm like "HOW DID YOU FIND EACH OTHER!?" lol it seems so surreal

I can't remember when my family first bought cell phones. It would probably be around 2000-2003. I remember when my family had pagers. I don't know anyone who has pagers now.

I first got the Internet when I was about 14 or 15 I think! No Facebook or forums then... Used to go in chat rooms sometimes (asl? lol).

I mainly used to play on unreal tournament online! And I remember getting msn. I'd chat to people on there, but that was really all you did!!

I got my first mobile phone when I went to uni aged 18!!

Madness.

We never had games consoles growing up, but always had a computer. Had an acorn . Used to load cassette tapes to play games

Really? I know a ton of people that use pagers. Mostly for work.

Or how about
-having to roll the car windows down instead of pressing a button?
-Only having one phone in the house, and having to stay within range of the cord when you were using it?
-not knowing who was calling until you answered the phone?
-only getting one tv station, and having to *gasp* walk over to it to turn the volume up?

I had the internet when I was young, maybe around 8 years old. Of course then it was all AOL dial up, and you had to pay for the amount of time you used on the internet.

Yes! I remember when caller ID came out, it was like an extra $10/month to have the service. And DVD players were a wondrous thing.

I will say I was on a cell phone plan a few years ago that is only in very metro areas, it isn't everywhere (Metro PCS). Once I had to drive up north Florida, on a slightly risky mission (pick up foster dogs from a random lady), and I didn't have service an hour from my house. I had to stop at pay phones to check in.
