So I have to make dinner tomorrow night for the family. Easy you say, well I have a mandatory ingredient...
Ground moose meat. I've never cooked with moose, so other than a chili I have no idea. Any suggestions?

Hmm...
Meatloaf? Add some grated carrots, chopped onion, garlic, other seasonings and form it, put it into a crock pot to cook all day. Meatballs and tomato sauce, burgers, tacos... It's a pretty lean meat so if you do burgers or something put lots of grated carrots and other veggies, or maybe some chopped bacon or something to keep it moist. Had some awesome bison sausage last weekend, they said they cook it as low as possible for as long as possible. It was pretty darn good. |

Is a roast possible? If so, I would throw a roast in a crockpot with your usual staple herbs, some cream of mushroom, some carrots, potatoes, and celery.
If not.. I second burgers.

It's really lean. My sister and brother in law ate it exclusively when they lived in Alaska. She kept a jar of lard handy to add a little bit of extra fat when they cooked it so it wouldn't be chewy or dry. Or if she fried it she'd throw in a slice of bacon.
Otherwise they just treated it like beef and used it in place of beef in everything. |

I love chili for ground venison, bison, moose, etc. It's really hard to cook some of that wild game without overdrying, but the chili works great, keeps it from drying out, and it adds a LOT to the taste beyond ground beef or pork.

I've never had moose, but with bigger game meat I prefer it ground and used in meat sauce or chili or something.

I've never cooked moose, but have used ground Bison for burgers and chili - definitely prefer the burgers, because the bison is so so so tasty and covering it up with chili ingredients is
![]() I've also made elk burgers, which are also excellent (I'm assuming the moose is similar) but I really liked the elk shredded and put in a pasta dish - not sure it'd work as well with ground meat.
