If you had a chance to go to China/Japan/South Korea, What activities would you do??

Hopefully, fingers crossed, I'm going on a 5 week vacation in Asia this summer

I'm probably spending a week in each of these places

- Tokyo
- Kyoto
- Seoul
- Shanghai
- Beijing

so excited, but what activities would you guys do? If you had the chance to go, what would you eat, do, see? I want suggestions!

I have a list of things I want to do already but I need moar moar moar!

So far I already have street markets in Beijing (silkworms, scorpions, crickets, starfish on a stick!) I just want to see them and photograph, not sure if I would dare to try any of that stuff.

That sounds like an amazing opportunity! I've never been to Asia, but I'd love to see the street markets, and would want to see some of the buddhist temples there, particularly in Kyoto. I'd also love to go hiking in some Japan's gorgeous national parks, I don't know how doable that would be for you. I also don't know how affordable it would be or easy to get in, but I'd look into going to Jiro Ono's sushi restaurant, as well. Maybe go to some kind of Sento? Or some of the quirky internet phenomena places like the cat cafe or the place with all the wild monkeys?

Are you flexible on the cities/countries you go to? I'd probably prefer to go to Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, etc. over China, personally. I think there's more I'd be interested in there.

Not sure if the street markets = night markets, but if not, those are a must.



And skewered lamb, because that stuff is amazing.



And roast duck.



And instant boiled mutton, which is very, very thinly sliced lamb cooked via hot pot.



Egg custards? I know you can get them anywhere, really, and I don't know if they taste any better in Asia... but they're my favorite things ever, so there's that.

Xiao Long Bao, because the ones in Shanghai are so good. And the variety. And they're so tiny and adorable and savory.



I'm 110% sure that you've had Bing Tang Hu Lu/Candied Haw before, but if you haven't, good god don't try it. It's disgusting.

I also hear from friends (from the US but in China as international students) that Shanghai has some great bars and clubs.

I would love to go to Jiro Ono's restaurant but it's like 350+ per person per meal and reservations are more than a month ahead of time so I don't think it's feasible. But I am going to stuff myself with endless sushi!! My favorite food in the whole wide world!

I have to go to china because the person I'm traveling with is visiting family there. Our Southeast Asia trip will be for another year where the plan is Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Grace, you have so many good ideas! I absolutely adore xiao long bao so I'm going to stuff myself with those too! I'm definitely checking out Peking duck at the most famous restaurant in Beijing.

Not a big lamb fan but my friend looooves it so we're definitely going to try that!
