Both Robyn and Trin are, in the scenarios you described. Both are terrified of strangers. Robyn runs and hides while Trin screams at strangers for awhile before running and hiding.
No having anyone over to watch them! That being said, I am going to start slowly testing the waters with doggy daycare and see how that goes. When we were in Ottawa at the Afghan hound reunion they did great being alone with all the other hounds and me being away in another part of the house. When they came home they seemed to have gotten more confident and we overcame some major hurdles with crowds and busy places right after that.
They are both desperate to do the right thing and Robyn's food motivation is no joke. Trin will do whatever Robyn does, so there is hope for both of them.
Luckily I have my mom and two brothers I can call on if need be...though Trin is still afraid of my brothers after two years.

Wassim is a superstar! I could throw that boy into anything with anyone and he'll just smile that sweet smile of his and go with the flow.

Nobody believes me when I tell them how low maintenance Gambit really is. Around the house he's quiet, low energy, present without being needy, doesn't counter surf, nondestructive, gentle, calm, doesn't wander, good with the foster dogs, doesn't bother Lady Chesh. At daycare, he's the life of the party, or, if I'm working inside, he follows me around 'helping' or laying quietly.

That said, I would never put him in a daycare I didn't work at, because he wouldn't make it and they would put him out. None of my friends would consider him overnight except one. He's going to have a trial overnight soon, because I want to be able to visit another friend where her two DA pit bulls would make him unwelcome.
