Default Dogs and Mornings

A comment on fb made me wonder about other dog owners:

Do your dogs wake you up or do you wake them up? What time does the day start?

Jones woke me up at 9. I consider this acceptable, since previously he was waking me up at 5. Nine is a much better compromise.

Normally though, everyone is lazy and content to sleep as much of the day away as I am. They're usually up all night with me anyway.

Ivan will sleep until 11 if given the chance. On the mornings Steven comes home from work, he lets Ivan out and then Ivan is back in bed until then. With vesper here things are adjusting. And hes wanting out in the mornings.
Peewee is usually outside. So he doesn't count.

Maisy does not stir until I actually get out of bed. I never hear a peep out of her in the morning.

Pip sleeps until I am awake. As soon as he notices me stirring he dives in for some morning cuddles, but he doesn't exactly try to get me up or out of bed. He just wants some lovin'. Then he gets up when I get up.

After about 7 am or so, Squash will intermittently get restless but I just ignore him and he just settles down again until I get up.

I will say, though, if any of them has a potty emergency they WILL wake me up which I am very grateful for. But that's different than just a normal average morning.

For the most part Caleb waits until I wake up. Of course, there is the rare time that he'll wake me up, but that's been on those rare mornings when we've slept extra late and he can't wait any longer to go out.

grumble grumble. You see these bags under my eyes? They're courtesy of one very happy morning dog named Sloan. This bitch has learned my alarm clock, she knows she's supposed to stay asleep until morning or fake sleep, I've caught her a million times just staring at me and if I acknowledge the stare the wiggles begin. She usually makes it, to my alarm, but the second that alarm starts she starts dancing on my head, thwapping that tail on the walls (or my face if I sit up) and squeaking. No one should ever be that happy about a pre 6am wake up, no one.

Backup follows suit by leap frogging, growling, barking into a toy, and stepping on everyone. He will however give up and stay down until I'm up, he's the hard one to get to sleep at night so I get fun on both ends with these two knuckle heads.

Arnold and Shamoo will lay in bed most of the day unless they have to go potty. I love them.

We just had the most obnoxious morning here.

I don't work most days until 12, I leave around 11:15 and like to wake up no later than 9. My roommate gets up around 7:30-8 though. When my dogs hear her moving around, that's pretty much it. Cue the pacing, whining, pawing the door, walking on top of me (*ahem* BLOSSOM)... My room is TINY (old house in Chicago) or I would have a crate for Blossom in the room with me, and I would "correct" any screwing around by putting her in the crate as soon as she started. But her crate would take up all the floor space, LOL.

Now, once they get me UP, it's Keeva's turn to be an ass. My room gets super hot at night so I don't sleep in much, but a.) the main house is cold and b.) I need to take the dogs outside, so of course I have to get dressed. Apparently the amount of time it takes me to put on sweatpants and t-shirt is too much, and Keeva has to do her brain penetrating corgi bark at the door.

Part of the problem is that they're excited to go straight outside. (Yay! Outside! Yay! Hurry up!) I know I could mitigate morning excitement by waiting to let them out but... they really do have to pee and I feel bad. They're also excited to see my roommate and her dog, etc.

All that said, and if there's nothing going on to get them up, they will sleep in with me until/unless they really have to pee. On Sunday we slept till 10 and it was GLORIOUS. lol

I'm lazy with house manners but it's too much, so I'm keeping a little dish of kibble/treats in my room, and have been rewarding sort of a casual "place" behavior. Blossom on the dog bed, Keeva on my bed, every stays there in a down while I'm getting myself up, because I know I can't take one more Malinois foot in my face or corgi bark in my brain without killing them. It's getting better. LOL

Also, my random question was "What color is a brown dog?" A VERY BAD MALINOIS was my answer. LOL

Mine sleep until I get up for the most part. When DH gets up, Aeri gets to take his spot on his side of the bed, but then everyone's asleep for a few more hours. Unless the neighbor dog starts barking and then Z will start getting restless because she knows I'm awake but not up.

Potty emergencies excepted of course!

Oh how I hate mornings with Crossbone! :P

He is up and ready at any given moment. We get up between 5 and 7 everyday, sometimes K & I get up at the same time, sometimes I sleep in longer. On those occasions it really messes Cross up, he hates it when we're in separate rooms and bounces between the two, which means no sleeping for me.

He has learned that we press snooze on average three times before we get up (we try to keep him guessing!) so he does wait until we start to stir to really get in our face and annoying. Or at the first time the alarm goes off he runs and gets his bone and chomps on it at the end of the bed until the third snooze, then he gets his ball and drops it on my face or gets really close and stares.

If I could just get up the first time the clock goes off, I wouldn't have to be pestered by him and life would be great. But, I can't....and I should....so I'll live with annoying morning dog. Maybe someday he'll make me into the morning person I desire to be :P

On weekdays Murphy usually moves around when the heater kicks on (around 4) which is...infuriating because I don't have to get up until 4:30. It didn't used to be a problem but I don't sleep as deep as I used to and now it wakes me up. It's a little better now that I've taken his collar/tags off but it's still really annoying. Especially since once I get up he goes back to bed. Like a jerk.

Mu and Tipper are both on tie down and Mu won't move anything but her eyes until I come back from the bathroom lol. Tipper gets up but settles back down and waits quietly til I come back.

Weekends are a different story. The heater kicks on around 7 and I don't know if the dogs are tuned into that or if they'd wake up then anyway. I've been going to bed super early so by then they've usually been inside for at least 10-11 hours anyway. So I don't mind that they wake up so we can let them out to pee. It helps that they're pretty polite about it - the worst we get is Tipper meerkat-ing and making huffing noises at the end of the bed.

I like Sundays when Matt works because he takes care of the dogs and I can sleep until 8:30. It's glorious (and usually the day I catch up and feel fantastic).
