Default Where are your dogs from? Where do you plan to get your future dogs?

Title pretty much says it all.

Max (passed) - given to us by my mother's co-worker when he was about 10. "Didn't have time for him anymore."

Lucky (passed) adopted from a shelter.

Shadow - 10 - given to us for free by my father's friend at 6wks (BYB, obviously. Bleh.).

Embyr - 4.5 - adopted from Danbury Animal Welfare Society

Copper - 3.5 - adopted from a rescue in NY

Bloo - 2 - given to us after her owner (my father's friend) passed away

Deke - 14 months - adopted from Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue

I don't think I'll ever get a dog that isn't a rescue. What about you?

Izzie was rehomed to me (named Dakotah then, so not her) by people that bought her on impulse from a byb. They had her for four weeks and then listed her in the paper because they couldn't handle her energy.

My next dogs will be from a reputable breeder. I like raising my own dog from a young age and choosing a breed I like plus I plan on competing in CKC events which requires the dogs to be purebred.

Tucker - BYB
Macie - Puppy Mill
Zander - BYB
Dante - AR Great Dane Rescue (no longer exists)
Gustav - AR shelter
Eve and Indy - pulled from Memphis Animal Shelter as fosters. Except we never took them back. Obviously.

Next dog will be from a reputable breeder.

Meg was pulled from a high-kill shelter in West Virginia, then brought up to Vermont by a rescue owned by my friend, with me in mind.

Gusto (and the rest of his litter) were rescued privately from a trailer in which they were abandoned.

I toss around the idea of getting my next dog from a breeder, but the stars would really have to line up as far as that goes; one of the few breeders I really love would have to be planning a litter from dogs I really love at the right time. Odds are, I will always have rescues. I do USDAA, so purebred doesn't matter to me, and I like getting dogs as young adults as opposed to puppies.

Saxon is from a family who could no longer care for him.

My next dog will be from a responsible breeder.

Future dogs will either be from responsible rescues or responsible breeders.

Zuma was adopted from a herding-breed specific rescue.

Zinga was from a breeder in Australia.

Zip is coming from a different breed in Australia.

I have no plans for future dogs right now but *if* we do ever breed, I would be keeping one to continue the lines. If that doesn't work out, rescue or importing again, I suppose.

Bazinga, Zip Tie, Zuma, Taboo
Envy, Edgar, Mighty Mouse, Famous

Murphy - Pikes Peak Humane Society
Mu - My cousin's girlfriend's sister's oops litter.
Tipper - Corgi rescue from Kansas

I'm planning on our next dog being from a breeder. I'm hoping that I can find a breeder that will be willing to hold onto a puppy (and do super awesome socialization) until they're three or four months old. If that doesn't work out I'll look for an older retired dog from a breeder and if that doesn't work out we'll go to rescue. It's entirely possible that in two years I'll fall madly in love with a senior male rescue and end up not using any of my elaborate plans. Lol.

Frodo - er, mix between byb and somewhat responsible breeder?
Siri - only the best breeder ever

Next dog: Won't be for quite a while, but most likely a rescue! I want a bigger dog to do skijor/bikejor eventually.

Ado's Gimme Victory RL1* "Siri"
2 year old Jack Russell Terrier
Gimme Drugs Not Hugs RL1 "Frodo"

Coco (Chesapeake Bay Retriever, passed) - BYB

Daisy (lab) - BYB

Benji (terrier mix, passed) - my sister picked him up off the street

Rocky (terrier mix) - found him on Craigslist. Some family had taken him in as a foster situation from another family with a teenage boy who used to hit him. This family also had teenage boys, so Rocky at least got re-socialized a bit at that home.

Roommate's dog Miles (pom mix) - roommate got him from the county shelter before I knew her.

I would like to get a Fila Brasiliero from a reputable breeder. Other dogs I'll just get from rescue.
