Default dogs meeting

Wow, I had Princess here at work with us today but its so pretty out I decided to take her home to play in the yard for awhile. I hadnt been back a half hour when in comes the guy I've complained about with his Great Dane. He wanted to let Princess meet his dog but thank God I had already taken her home! Nothing agaisnt the breed, such a pretty dog, my problem is the way this guy handles dogs I dont know if his dog is safe around other dogs or people. I asked him if he bites, he said not as long as he is there.
It scares me to think of Princess meeting his dog. I dont worry that Princess would start a fight, but I dont know that his dog wouldnt! Plus Princess has never seen a dog as big as this one, it might frighten her.
Now I'm worried this guy might start popping in with his dog. I just wish I knew if this dog was aggressive to other dogs, I have a feeling, from the things I've heard, this dog shouldnt be trusted. Thats so sad to because its such a pretty dog. Appears well behaved and if it was anyother persons dog besides his I dont know that I'd be so worried about it. So now I dont know what I'm going to do if he comes walking in here sometime with his dog and I have Princess here!

Danes used to be very dependable, but they got popular and now we're seeing temperament problems in some of them, usually showing up more as dog aggression than human aggression, which is very dangerous, especially for the Danes as they have also developed some structural weaknesses (spines in particular) along with the other problems of irresponsible over breeding.

Someone had an adult male Dane in the feed store one day when I took Shiva with me. She's still not a fully mature adult and has a lot of puppy in her, but when the Dane walked up to her - with no checking by the owner, I might add - and thrust his chest up against her shoulder and put his head over her neck she just looked at me out of the corner of her eye and started leaning into him. He was a good bit taller than she is, but she probably weighed significantly more. She just kept leaning, little by little, never moving her feet, until he staggered backwards and whined. Then she looked at me, wagged her tail in big sweeping arcs, and jumped up and put her paws on my shoulders and looked me in the eye and gave me the biggest dog smile! She was so proud of herself!

The Dane's owner slunk off and the store manager came over and petted Shiva and gave her a big cookie. Evidently they've had some problems with this dog bullying before.

It's really an awful shame; the Great Dane used to be such a dependable, gentle giant. Another example of why you should be so careful in selecting a breeder to get your purebred puppy from.

The Great Dane is such a pretty dog. A old friend has one, I havent seen him in years but this dog was the sweetest dog. Before this guy got married and moved I stopped by his house, he wasnt home but the front door was open (very common practice in this neck of the woods). This HUGH dog came walking up to the storm door and was trying so hard to open it as if to say come on in. This dog was very well socialized and has a wonderful owner.
Very pretty dogs.

Danes really are beautiful dogs. I just wish the wrong kind of owners didn't zero in on them so often. You get these idiots who have that "my dog's bigger" mentality and that is NOT what a Great Dane is all about! Like the idiots who want Pit Bulls so they can have the "baddest dog on the block." Oh, I don't need to get started on this! lol!
