So, I used to HATE eggs. Gross packets filled with disgusting. Then we got our own chickens, and our own eggs. I LOVE the eggs fresh from our own chickens, and was regularly eating eggs for the first time ever.
Well, our chickens are molting (HURRY THE **** UP AND FINISH ALREADY!) and as such aren't really laying eggs. We get maybe 1 every 2-3 days. As a result, I haven't been eating eggs. I have a few recipes I want to try that include eggs. Are there any eggs at the store that taste like actual, fresh eggs?

Can you get farm eggs? Here people tend to put an honesty box up and you can grab a box of eggs and leave £1 or something. Or ask around to see if anyone else has chickens.
I heard eating too many eggs a week was bad for your cholesterol.. I might be wrong.

We don't have either of those things around here
(well, we have butchers, but they don't sell eggs). Also, I hardly eat "too many eggs a week." We're five people. 2-3 eggs a week doesn't last long with five people. Besides that, cholesterol is more affected by genetics than diet. Eggs are a fantastic source of protein for a keto diet.

The organic brown eggs I've gotten from the grocery store are fine, but nowhere near as good as fresh eggs.

You might try looking for a natural foods store or something... it probably won't be quite the same but that is about as close as I think you could get? Maybe post on craigslist and see if anybody has chickens laying that you could buy eggs from, but that might be kinda creepy, LOL.

I'm with you- nothing beats a good, farm fresh egg! I've found the organic brown eggs at the supermarket to be a close second, tho. I know, I know- the "eggperts" say there isn't a difference in taste between white & brown eggs (or green), but I prefer the brown.

The dogs won't touch the green ones. Also, I may be able to fool myself psychologically with brown ones lol. Put 'em in a bowl and pretend they're from our chickens

organic will be the closest you'll come to farm fresh. Go to a smaller health food store, check their community board, often you'll find a farmer that has fresh eggs or someone that knows someone
![]() also, you can't eat too many. Eggs are about as perfect of a food source as you can get, assuming humans haven't messed with it's production too much. Dietary cholesterol has no meaningful impact on cholesterol levels in your body. Most of it is made my your liver and it gets way too much credit for all our ailments. People should focus more in inflammatory markers than cholesterol but that's another topic |

The chickens' diet has a huge effect on the fat/nutrient profile of the eggs they produce too.
The difference in flavor is because of the age of the egg. Most eggs in the grocery store are about a month old by the time they hit the shelves. The longer an egg sits there, the most the stuff inside converts to sulfur which some people are really sensitive to the flavor of, so getting organic vs. non organic probably won't make that big a difference if that's the grossness you're sensitive to. Check the farm and garden section of your craigslist. There are dozens of people with hobby farms and backyard flocks on ours selling fresh eggs laid that day. |
