Wanted: A book board

I am reading a new book called "Animals in Translation: Using the Mysteries of Autism to Decode Animal Behavior" by Temple Grandin.

Ms. Grandin, is an autistic woman who also has a Phd in Animal Science, with an emphasis on Animal Behavior. Her main interests lie in creating humane ways to kill livestock for the meat industry, and how much a like animals and autistic people think.

While the book talks a lot about her findings through her research with livestock and her life as a woman with autism, there are also many other interesting tidbits regarding animal behavior, animal genetics and how they affect temperment; not to mention the effects the tampering humans have done throughout the ages to get what we want from the animals who live with us.

As i have read this book, i have found many passages to be worthy of reposting here on Chaz to stimulate discussion based on this woman's findings and how it relates to dogs. I haven't done so, thus so far, because my life continues to be busy, and spare time is often hard to come by for long posts.

Plus I am not so sure how many people would want to read the tid bits i find interesting. I wouldn't want to clog up the main general dog discussion with a long post quoting the book if no one is interested.

Also, as a suggestion for the forum - would it be possible to get a centralized board specifically to suggest books to other members and to discuss that which we've read? I think that would be really beneficial as I know Mordy has been recommending the same books over and over in various threads, as have other people.

Anyone else want to form a "virtual" book group here on Chaz?

I like that idea. I think it should be for general books too. I want to read more And I know there are a lot of good readers on this board.

Same here Saje. I love to read, but I am not sure what to read sometimes based on what I am looking for. This book Animals In Translation was the first new book I have allowed myself to splurge on in months. Generally i go to local used book stores to try and find what I want... but it can be pretty difficult.

Difficult! There are no bookstores of any kind here. Crazy. I go to the library. I'll see if they have that book you mentioned.

Oooh, I've seen Animals in Translation at book stores. I want to get it at Costco, or when there's a sale, because it's quite expensive.
