has anyone heard that ear infections in dogs can be caused by food allergies?
our dog is 11 months and is on her 4th ear infection. we clean them every two weeks, not too much, not too little, and our vet mentioned she may be allergic to her food, but no skin problems other than that. any suggestions? |

There are several threads here on this. It seems to be a pretty common problem - no doubt exacerbated by all the awful stuff in most dog food. Don't let your vet talk you into the Science DIEt garbage. Most vets seem to sell it and it's a nice little profit center. They don't know any better in a lot of cases, as I understand the dog food manufacturers - mainly Science DIEt and Eukanuba/Iams sponsor most of that.
Run a forum search on "ear infections" and check those out and see if any of it seems to apply to your pup. Many recurring ear infections in dogs are caused by yeast, a problem that many vets don't acknowledge or categorize as an allergy. Whatever you do, avoid treatments with prednisone or other steroids if you possibly can. The side effects can be terrible.
