Senior dogs make for hard decisions.

I'm so sorry...(hugs)

I know how that feels like I remember when they told us Cinnamon's kidneys were failing and that if she survived her life would change completely. She would be sickly and for a 12 year old dog there was nothing much they could do... so they sent us home with the idea and without my dog(stayed there overnight) that if she survived she wouldn't live much longer and she would have to be PTS depending on how she would fair.. I left the vet with a broken heart either way I was going to loose my dog. But I couldn't think of putting her down yet she was still alive and had more years in her but when I thought about it.... maybe it wouldn't be fair to her if she was in pain... when the time came I would know it and would know what to do. Unfortunately(or fortunately whatever way I choose to look at it)..... I didn't get to make the hard decision, she died 2 days later, peacefully in her sleep at the hospital. Still I'm left with a broken heart and still missing my girl endlessly, so i get that wishing there was more medicine for an older dog, more time so they can be with us indefinitely . I shutter to think what will happen to my little Luna once she's a senior...

Ah, I'm so sorry. :-( We had to put down our old dog Friday, too. Such a hard thing.

Its getting close with my 13 year old lab mix too.....starting to seem to be more bad days than good

I"m sorry to hear that. Making that choice for Argon was devastating, even though he hadn't eaten in a week and I knew we were both ready.

And to add insult to injury, the vet called and needs to move his appt. To Saturday. Sucks to say the least. On top of it all, I am the sickest I have been in years. What a freaking week.

I requested a certain vet and he does large animals too. They had an emergency yesterday that bumped the other large animal clients over a day. They did call this morning and offer me an appt. for Friday afternoon. They're good vets, just busy and I am picky.

It happens. The good ones are always super busy because well that never stays secret for long!

Preg testing our cows New Year's eve was the last farm call my parent's vet is supposedly doing. He's really good. Five bucks says he can't stop working and does a lot of fill-in work though. He put my horse on some meds that really helped his last two months be higher quality, but one of the other really good guys did the actual euth call when that happened. Its a good vet practice.
