Default What do you think?

Okay,
So I have looked at some ACD breeders, and have come up with this kennel.
Opinions?

Also, I would like to know what everyone thinks about shipping dogs? There are no breeders in my area...
Lastly, if shipping is okay, what age is it okay for?

I would recommend you to the first site you posted. I have heard of them before and looked them up, they are great breeders and produce beautiful dogs. I havn't heard tell of the second kennel, but I will take a look. I imagine you have a good idea of what a good breeder should be so I am thinking they are great breeders too. Puppies should be shipped no earlier than 8 weeks old. You can always contact the breeders and ask about it. Good luck!

Just checked out there site. Their dogs are pretty nice looking, but I agree with Jenn about going with the first one!! Their dog's fit the standard very well. Check out the awards page! Their ACDs really seem to excel at agility!

YAY!
They excel at my favorite sport!
*claps hands in glee*
I hope they will ship .
I looked at some in the shelter but EVERY SINGLE ONE had dog aggression problems.
Bad socialization?
Or are these dogs prone to it?

ACDs end up in shelters because people go out and buy a cute puppy without doing their homework. These dogs were probably tied most of their life and not reaching their exercise and socialization needs, they devolop behavior problems. It can happen to any breed. To tell you the truth, of all the ACDs I have meet including my Charlie, not one was aggressive. Charlie is definalty one of the sweetest dog's we've ever owned. You can take his toy or bone and he doesn't do anything. You can put your hand in his dish and he doesn't mind at all (PLEASE do not try this with your dog, it's dangerous, but I've been doing it since he was a pup to prevent food aggression). He also loves meeting new people and playing with other dogs.

BTW The breed IS known for some males to be same sex aggressive towards other dogs, BUT if they are raised around or live with other dogs they have no problems. Charlie is male and his best friend also happens to be a male BC. (Neutering also helps!)

I like the looks of the first kennel as well- typey dogs!

I'm not as familiar with Canadian kennels, but I looked at who they were working with in the US, and was very impressed.

As far as shipping dogs - I have had three dogs shipped to me so far. Of the three, one had a very tough time with it. She hadn't been properly socialized as a young puppy, was nearly five months old and had never even been in a kennel. She needed a home, I offered one, and she got stuck in a kennel and shipped from Ohio to Alaska. It's taken me years to get her through all her lack of socialization and the trauma of being shipped like that.

But the other two were from reputable breeders who handled the pups well beforehand. Both puppies were crate trained young, had some socialization and had ridden in the kennels for car rides frequently. Both were shipped at just over 8 weeks of age. Both showed up as happy and confident as I could have wanted.

You'll be looking at a bit of expense with shipping - not only the freight cost, but the health certificate too.

As far as the ACD temperament, unfortunately around here there have been some really nasty ones. At the vet clinic we had a few clients with ACD's and some of them had to be muzzled for everything. And I had one particularly memorable dog come through my class who had no socialization as a young dog, had been allowed to get away with everything, and then when it started being dominant aggressive as an adult they decided to come to class. The dog bit me several times.

But I've met some really nice ones too. I think it's probably much like the chows or shepherds - if you start out with a good breeder who breeds for temperament as much as everything else and who handles the puppies well during those first 8 weeks, and then you continue the socialization and training, you'll end up with a nice dog with a good attitude.
