I want to start running with my dog. I have been using a gentle leader for walks and I am curious if they can be used for runs?

Yes, but a few caveats always apply.
You'll probably need to retrain loose lead running. I know with mine, even if they are walking nice a quick jog will often send them off full speed. Any of the downsides to a head harness like neck strain and such would be magnified by any additional speed. If you can train the running on the gentle leader then move to a collar, that might be preferable. |

I'd actually switch to a front-attach harness to start, then a regular harness. I'd be worried about neck damage from the GL or a collar while running, if the dog decided to bolt after something.

Agreed - I much prefer a harness while running with my dogs!

DO you recommend any harnesses?
Would something like this work? http://www.ruffwear.com/Singletrak-P...review_average Last edited by grayada1; 01-02-2013 at 12:36 PM. |
