No kidding. I wish smart people like us could run the world. Although I"m sure there are a lot of issues that we wouldn't all agree on BUT at least the animals would be treated right.

I wrote my story in. Mine isn't as severe as all those but if this never happened I'd still have Blacky! Heres what i wrote below...
Name: Leeann Boone

Location: Waukesha,WI

Date of incident: 6/20/1998

Description of dog: lab/pitbull mix

Details of the incident: Me,my friend and my dog blacky were outside in the backyard. Blacky was on his chain minding his own bussiness when my friend came up to him and started whacking him with a stick and of course he grabbed the stick and pulled her down by her arm but never bit her! Well she went and told her mom that he attacked her for no reson and never mentioned that she whacked him with a stick! So we wound up tacking him to a HS cuz of her!!!

I live in the suburbs, 30 miles away from New York City. I've owned Am Staffs since I was twenty (I'm now 42.) in this same neighborhood. On New Year's day, my local pet group decided to have a dog-friendly party. One of the members invited her sister, an owner of a West Highland Terrier looking dog.

The party was at my house, as I have the largest yard, and I wouldn't fuss when an accident happened. Around 1pm, all of the dogs were out in my 2.5 acre, fenced backyard. My Am Staffs were all playing with their usual playmates. My elderly one was lying next to my feet as I was talking to a friend who wanted to purchase one of my puppies. All of a sudden the Highland Terrier came running up to my dog and starting aggressively biting his ears, face, and paws. My dog did nothing, except whine.

Suddenly the owner rushed up, and kicked my dog in the face, saying that he was attacking her dog. As my husband escorted her and her sister off of the property, she was shouting "**** pitbulls! They shouldn't allow f****** dogs like that in a PET group!"

After she left, many of the member laughed. Later, I was given a written apology by the sister of the owner of the terrier. I soon found out that her sister was living in Canada!

All in all, discrimination goes anywhere.

I went for my bi-weekly visit to a large pet supply store in Scarborough. While walking through the isles with my lovable companion (a 9-month-old Doberman puppy), a family of 4 met me at the corner of an aisle. The father immediately held back his children and raised his voice at me, saying, “PIT BULLS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN A PUBLIC PLACE!”

I very calmly said, “Sir…First off, this is a Doberman Pinscher and, secondly, this is a PET STORE.” I then called the manager over and she explained to the confused people that pets come in the pet store so the owners can try out the appropriate merchandise for their pets. The man lashed out again with extreme arrogance, “MY FAMILY ISN’T SAFE WITH THESE WOLVES AROUND!”

It’s really very sad that people aren’t aware of the truth about dogs!
WHAT THE HECK WAS THIS GUY THINKING???????

Quote:
Last night I was walking my dog (an English Mastiff) and my friend’s dog (a Neapolitan Mastiff that I am taking care of for a week while they are on holidays). While I was out with them both on leashes…These two guys driving by started to yell comments about my “vicious dogs". They drove off, so I just ignored them.

They came back around the block and started throwing cans and a bottle at the dogs and me. They hit the Neo and he ran behind my legs to get away. He was terrified, which sent my guy cowering to the floor. Both of these dogs are rescues and have been through their share of abuse. They did not growl, bark, lunge at the car or do anything the least bit intimidating. I picked up the bottle and hurled it back at the car and it smashed against the back window. I thought, ‘Oh sh**!’ They slammed on the brakes and got out of their car. Now both dogs were standing at my side. (Good feeling being surrounded by over 400 pounds of dogs.)

They started to walk towards me and I said if they came any closer I would let the dogs off their leads and would not be responsible if my dogs attack them… They got back in their car and took off. We proceeded to “back-alley-it” all the way home.

I do not need to be in fear when I take my dog for a walk and am a little sick of it. This is the second time that I have been physically threatened and I will not put up with this any longer. I am now carrying pepper spray, so don't get too close.
If someone did that to any of my girls, they'd be getting rocks, cans, sticks and (if possible ) boulders thrown at them. I'd kill them.

While my husband was loading our shopping trip items into the back of our open-hatched mini-van, the two Rottweilers happily sitting in the back seat, I was sitting in the driver's seat, with the window down. Two well-dressed business men were walking past. One challenged the other, 'Stick your hand in there, eh.' The other, somewhat dimwitted, said, 'Huh?' Guy #1 says: 'Those are Rottweilers - tear your arm off, they would.'

To which I responded, 'THEY wouldn't, but I would.'
You tell them!

I got pissed beyond belief when I saw that one. ^

I just hate how much worse all of this has gotten. Not that Zeus and Tundra were ever truly accepted in public but nowadays its alot worse. I've gotten plenty of comments from people saying that if the law is passed in Ontario they hope it can be passed here in the future because my dogs should not be in the pet store with out muzzles on. Of course I get upset and it worries me. Both Tundra and Zeus have had such crappy past lives. I do enjoy the advantages of lving on the farm because I don't HAVE to deal with these people everyday.

I really don't know how you guys in Canada are going to deal with all of this petty bigotry. We've got our own share of fear-mongering fools down here in the States, but it's mostly directed at other people, not dogs. I do expect that to start becoming more of an issue before too long, though, especially in the cities where these dogs are thought of as gang dogs.

I kind of wonder how much of the backlash against Pits in Canada is because they are "American Pit Bulls." Some Americans have really done a job making the rest of the world hate anything American.
