Default The Canadian Monkey story

I know a lot of you have heard the story of the monkey in Canada found in a parking lot with an adorable coat on. Apparently, the monkey escape from his owner and is now being taken to a sanctuary since it is illegal to keep such a pet.

Now, I think that is a very cruel thing to do to the young monkey. Monkey's bond with their owner in a motherly sort of way so taking it from their owner is like separating a small child from their parents. The monkey was describe as screaming when it was found because he was lost and hoping his "mother" would come and find him. The people keeping him now describe him as very depress and stress out. I hope that they at least allow the owner to visit him. She is trying to get him back and, despite it being illegal, I hope there is some way the monkey can be with her.

I don't know. I just have mix feelings about the whole thing. This monkey is a couple of months old and I have heard that as they get older, monkeys become more aggressive and out of control so it may be a good thing for him to end up at a sanctuary right now. Still, the abrupt removal from his "mother" doesn't seem right.

The sanctuary released a statement that they are trying to get the little guy to bond to a monkey mother figure and that they are willing to work with the owner once he settles in, saying they will accommodate requests that are in his best interest. So she will be allowed to see him they just want him to settle, which is understandable.

"He's not mourning his human mother at all," said Sherri Delaney of the Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary in Sunderland, Ont., about 100 kilometres northeast of Toronto.
"He is not showing signs of stress ***8212; signs of stress might appear in the form of his hiding or huddled in a ball, whimpering," she said during one of her numerous media interviews Tuesday.
"He's not doing that. He's happy."

He looks pretty happy IMO

Personally? Not a fan of primates as pets and it is illegal...she shouldn't of had him in the first place let alone been dressing him up and toting him around and loose enough to somehow find himself in an IKEA store!

IMO the monkey is better off.. even if he is distressed now (which the sanctuary says he is not) it's for the best for him the long run IMO

The sanctuary looks awesome
IMO this story has a happy ending for the monkey.

I'm sure the owner is upset.. he was her pet. But frankly.. 1. Her pet is illegal 2. Should have been under control and not roaming IKEA. She is very lucky he didn't bite someone and get euthanized and 3.. I think he is much better off at a sanctuary with his own kind than being dressed up and diaper changed and fed from a bottle.. I'm sure she does love him but when he reached maturity.. I don't think this wouldn't ended well regardless.

Disclaimer: I work for Trupanion and love it/our policy! But I do not speak for the company or as the company.

I wish bad people didn't exist, I don't think captivity of exotics is a black and white "wrong" issue. She may have known what she was doing, but how did he get loose?

Ill be honest, I dress up my dogs and I would dress up a lion if I owned it, I don't see that as a sign if bad ownership.

He's probably where he belongs now, I hope he's happy and I hope she learned her lesson, no matter what it was.
