Question cockalier???

Ok, I think I have seen the cutest mix today. It was a cockalier (cross between cavalier king charles spaniel and cocker spaniel). My neighbor is puppysitting it for a few days and brought it over to show me just now. She said her sister paid like nine hundred bucks for this puppy . She asked if I thought her sister had been ripped off and I was like YEAH this is a mutt and she paid that much money for it ofcourse she got ripped off! She could have went to the shelter and saved herself 800 dollars! has anyone else heard of this mix? I guess the puppy was bought from a breeder and it has a 2 year health guarantee but still that is A LOT to pay for a mutt.

I've started to see them pop up in the pet stores recently. They are cute, but WAAAAY overpriced, especially considering all the random health problems that come from both breeds. Not the best to be throwing together I think.

Yes they're cute dogs, but how can people be so stupid as to pay so much for a mutt is beyond me...

I don't know I couldn't see spending that much on any dog, let alone a mix breed. That is just WAY too much money to spend on a dog, well atleast for right now it is.

holy cow... I've been seeing more and more of these... Just yesterday a man asked me if I would breed Maddie *shudders*
Personally can not see buying a 900$ dog when I can save a life of one for like $30 give or take.

I know that in the US that well bred cavalier king charles spaniels are hard to come by. My boyfriend wants one, and we've both done the research and for a purebred one they cost at least $1000. Why anyone would pay $900 for a mutt one is absolutely beyond me.

Everything aside, I can't get past the name. Whoever thinks these names up should be shot.

I've seen a Cav/Cocker mix before.. Cute, cute dog but I can only imagine the health problems the poor thing will have coming from the poorly bred Cav, and the temp. problems coming from the poorly bred cocker. (Because no well bred dog would be part of a "program" to breed "Cockaliers". Period.)

As for price.. I am willing to pay for quality. If I have to pay $1500 for a top quality, well bred dog from proven healthy, sound lines, I will. It's the better (and in the long run, cheaper) alternative to buying a puppy from the neighbors' pet for $250 because it's convenient.

RD - I'm of the same opinion. I told my boyfriend if and when he decided to bring his cav home, he wouldn't be allowed to bring home just any ol' cav. I will be making sure that he buys a top quality dog and that the price MATCHES what he is getting in regards to bloodlines, health and temperment testing, from parents that have titles.

He has seen me go off the handle about people who buy expensive designer mutts, so he has promised that when he gets his dog he will be coming to me - even if we aren't dating anymore. He trusts that I will steer him in the right direction in getting a good dog. As he has pointed out to others, I may have a mutt with mild health problems (hd mostly), but i don't have a mutt with temperment problems!
