Dog's are sooooo proud of killing those bad varmints! Believe it or not, I've got a cat, Gomez (he lives with my parents in town since he'd never last out here with the coyotes and there's no way to keep him inside in the summer) who kills 'possums. He's killed three that managed to get into the house.
I twit Charley all the time when he talks about country animals being stronger and faster, etc., etc., than city animals. He's never seen a cat that could take a 'possum!

I learned a life lesson from a rat once when I was cleaning kennels. My boss often put out poison so to find one in the throws of death was not uncommon. I saw the rat and felt pity for it, it was laying on it's side but still quite alive, so I thought I would put it "out of it's misery" I approached it only to have it jump up and bit a hole through my jeans. I was clear across the kennel before I even really realized what had happened..life lesson..if your about to be stepped on.. bite and run!

Good lesson - not unlike one I've learned from Shiva: when Shiva's about to step on you, say no, but get out of harm's way - just in case!
