Default Those of you with high energy dogs...

When do you exercise them?

For those who work normal hours, do you get up and exercise them before going to work? Or are they generally fine until you get home, and then you exercise them?

Just wondering!

Mia and I play ball every morning at 5 before work. She also gets her breakfast in a tug a jug. Then she's fine till I get home for the most part.

I only have two days a week with "normal" hours, and on those days I either wait until I get home or rely on yard zoomies or indoor fun like recreational bones and training. On my remaining days I don't go into work until later and have plenty of time before work to get everyone exercised.

Rage and I sometimes run between 1-3 miles before work in the AM - I usually leave for work around 9:30 and get back 6:30. On the weekends especially I run her and then take her to the dog park. I need to start biking with her more and running more consistantly... lately it just hasn't been wearing her out like it used to. Like Laur, I've been wanting to get some tug-a-jug/Kong wobbler/puzzle type toys for her to eat out of & see if that helps with her bat$h!t craziness.

When I worked full-time, I used to leave Solo alone all day then bring him for an hour off-leash run every day after work.

Elsie waits it out until I get home. Of course, I'm a student, so I'm usually only gone half days. When I get home she's pretty keyed up, so we go out most evenings and the weekends.

This does not apply to me now because a) I don't work much and b) I don't usually classify my dog as high energy anymore.

BUT when I was gone 40-50 hours a week and Juno was crazy, any sort of exercise came after I got home. There was absolutely no way I was going to make time for that in the morning. And evening exercise was still pretty short and mild, so I just made sure to get lots in over the weekend.

In the morning before work and then after work. Before work is just a short fetch session and some basic obedience then after work, we do more stuff. Plus they have classes at night 2-3 times a week typically and IPO training Saturdays.
