Red face Geneva rescue

Well we got Snoopy through the SPGA its a no-kill shelter that keeps dogs until they find a home. They require you to pay a fee and sign a contract that for any reason if one cannot keep the animal they must return to the rescue. Even if the dog has a negative disposision they will still take them in.

I have seen some pretty scary rescue places, but this one is pretty nice. Lots of space to romp and play. Big indoor kennels and volunteers to walk and love the dogs.

Only downside is they do not neuter the males. Females are spayed but when it comes to neutering male dogs over here people seem really upset that anyone would do this to a male dog. (My theory is just another example of the patriarchal mindset over here.) Anyway, to date Snoop still has his kahoonas...it is unbelievably expensive here. So he is not humpping anything other than the other frustrated male dogs and there are many. He is however very polite at home. We are saving up for the neutering cost. I for one cannot believe that it so taboo to do this.

On a bright note most dog owners I meet have gotten their babies from the same rescue place so it is comforting. People here are true dog lovers. The furries get to go everywhere and are a welcome sight for most people. I seen so many dogs in the department stores, bakeries, restaurants and such it is great. Most of us in the city rent flats and the landlords love dogs so no questions asked. Although if your dog is really rude you may be asked to get it some training or to move. But they give the benifit of the doubt to the dog before passing judgment.

Well that is all for know.
Ciao

Sounds like a great system - especially that the dogs are welcome so many places. That is strange about the neutering, though. Maybe they'd have less problems with dog vasectomies? Although that wouldn't address the health issues that neutering does.

Serena, I think Snoop's rescue organization is in Switzerland.

Yes they do. You know that the last canton (province or county) let women have the right to vote in either the the early 80's or 90's. Yes I know. It is also really tough for working single women here. Most women stay home w/kids and if they work it is part-time. My sister came to visit and when she went out for a stroll and wanted to get a bite she had the hardest time getting served. But if she were with a kid, another woman or a guy no problem. As I said before I think the non-neutering issue is a mini-statement on the patriarchal society we have here. But trust me when I say it is a fantastic place to live raise kids, have doggies and pets. Really safe for an urban setting. Still miss the sensibilities of the USA however.

Hmmm, sounds a lot like some places in the southern U.S. Except for the part about being a good place to raise kids . . . I understand the Swiss education system is supposed to be excellent.

Its pretty good. Strange thing is if your kid has any behavior or learning issues the teachers can tell you but you have to get your child help, the school will not recomend it or even transfere a child into a different class or special group. My child's teacher had a really hard time last year with a student who was extreemly difficult and disruptive during class. All she could do was alert the parents and they ignored it and she had a heck of a time dealing with the problem. Have to say she is a fantastic teacher with three boys, two are 8 year old twins, so she is used to an active houshold and even she was frustrated. For the class and also the little kid.

On the bright side Snoopy loves to come to school with some of the other dogs and they all wait for the kids to come out. I walk a total of three kids and snoop home everyday. the kids love it and he is a little star. I lucky for a non-neutered male he is really good with kids.
