Hopefully the emergency declaration will speed things up and cut out some of the nitpicking.

Start making lists and looking up retail replacement values. The more of that you have done the easier it's going to be for you and since they're going to be slammed with claims, the people who have the stuff itemized and priced are most likely to get taken care of. If the adjusters have to start doing the pricing you're going to get flea market prices and then you'll have an uphill battle getting them to budge, but if the work's already done they're more inclined to avoid more work and take your estimate

this too. We always have a itemized list of the larger items

Furniture stores are good about giving estimates on replacement -- they hope you'll remember they helped and come to them when you get the check

Alright, I can start looking up replacement costs for the larger stuff like electronics, appliances, and furniture. The structural costs I have no idea, I guess they will have to do that. My floor is gone, the walls and electric will need to be replaced, I lost my furnace, oil tank, and hot water heater. I don't know if there is any damage to the foundation and half my deck is missing.

And what about the little knick knacks? I have several hundred dollars worth of scrap booking supplies that were destroyed as well as my of school supplies which is loose leaf, notebooks, binders, markers, etc... I have throw blankets, but once I get a new washing machine I can probably just clean them. Then there are the dog toys... And shoes, and other little odds and ends as well.

as for the appliances I would get a replacement cost as well. If you send me some info I can help since Im up wasting time until Jeremy gets off work and home.

For the odds and ends I would come up with one lump sum figure.

Write down absolutely everything you can think of/remember, as well as approximate retail value. Even the little stuff like fleece, scrapbooking paper, ect.

I have nothing to add that's helpful. But I wanted to say that I am very sorry you were affected like that. I am so glad you are ok, though. Good thoughts headed your way!

If you have pictures that you've taken, you can show some of the things in the house to your insurance company. Remember, they could just be pics you took during celebrations, holidays, etc. in your home but will show what's in your home besides the people or dogs you took the pics of.
