Unhappy Look at my poor dog...

Last night I got home from work and Karma's eyes were swollen shut and her mouth was swollen to four times it's normal size. She was also covered from head to toe in golf ball size hives. She had been in the outside kennel during the day with Kenai and Kenai had nothing wrong with him. She puked in the car on the way to the emergency vet and could barely stand, her heart was pounding. The vet didn't even touch her and said it was an allergic reaction to something. I asked if they could do tests and check the oxygen level in her blood and they tried to charge a ridiculous amount of money for it and then said they wanted to do it in the back, which I said no to because she was already freaking out, she hates men and had already tried to bite the vet in the face when he tried to touch her. He said it would be best to just give a Benadryl shot and a steroid shot to her and monitor her at home so she wouldn't get too stressed out and bring her back if it got worse. She started to look better after about an hour of getting the shots. Woke up this morning and there was a huge amount of vomit in her crate and she was covered in hives on top of hives again and had a huge mouth...her jowls were huge, hard, and purple, as well as her tongue. Called the vet and he said to give her an Allegra (less side effects than Benadryl) and watch her closely. The hives are gone now but her mouth and eyes still look terrible.

I'm so worried about her. Prayers, vibes, advice, words of experience with this, PLEASE. Thank you...

I have no advice, but I'll keep you guys in my thoughts! Poor baby! Did she maybe get stung by a bee or something??

Can you take her back in and get some blood work done? Sounds like an allergic reaction, but Id also worry if she got in to something...

Poor baby! Can you find any evidence of a bite of any kind?

Never fun coming home to that! Piper likes to do it to me too:

(Sorry those are big, pulled them off FB)

That was two different occasions. She has a knack for finding things she shouldn't !

Luckily, other than looking like a puffer fish, she's never had any other symptoms. So I just treat her with Benadryl and by the next day she's back to normal.

No advice but my cousin's dog, also a pit bull, likes to randomly puff up so much his eyes swell shut on occasion. Scares the poop out of everyone, swelling goes down in about 3 days and no one can figure out what it is. Happens outside though.

Those allergic reactions suck...poor Menchi has had them a couple of times. Makes the poor souls so miserable

Could she have gotten a hold of something that she is having an allergic reaction to?

Dogs, like us humans can suffer from a variety of allergies. The only difference is the fact that dogs cannot tell us what happened to them so that it would take a while before we can figure out (if at all) what caused the itching, the bumps and the reddening of thee skin. Even vets would find it difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of allergy.

Poor baby. Your dog may have gotten in contact with airborne allergens, got bitten by an insect or had eaten food it is allergic to. The discomfort would surely make the pet miserable and you sick with worry.

Sending vibes Karma's way.
