My niece lives in Minnesota & her jobs requires her to travel within her area. She loves it. It's small but gets great gas mileage and that's what is important to her. She used to have a Honda CR-V that she really liked but couldn't afford the payments so traded it in for the cooper.

I suppose if one lives somewhere where the traffic isn't so bad...like out in the country, it would be better odds and I agree that they're probably fun to drive. There was a time when I drove a little Alfa Romeo. Now, that was a fun car...very maneuverable, extremely good around corners. (that maneuverability a lot of small cars possess, can give them one up on big cars and sometimes can avoid an accident better, but statistically safer...don't know about that. If roll overs are the most common, most deadly, then maybe yes...suvs are right there at the top of the roll over risk, some better than others though. If you live somewhere where traffic and drivers are nuts, like Seattle....lol... I would think seriously before getting into a tin can on the freeways. It's not the roll over you have to worry about. It's the maniac tail gaters, erratic lane changing without looking, craziness.Quote:

Sorry Laura....don't mean to be a "Debbie Downer." I got carried away with the safety factor. If that's the car for you, you feel good about it, then go for it. They sure do get good gas mileage and sound fun to drive. Maybe you live in a pretty safe place to drive and it isn't the same thing as I envision.

Doberluv, maybe you're just paranoid. I know plenty of people that get by just fine in seattle and calgary and toronto and vancouver and all these big cities (all with nasty traffic) that have no problem with their small cars.
They just know how to drive

Well yes, it does help to know how to drive.

"mini"-cars are awesome. ^^ I guess our car would be considered mini - if the honda fit is.
We've never had a problem at all! I've never driven a mini though.

I know, right? They look like you'd just crunch like an accordion if you got into an accident.

But if you look at actual crash tests:

I'm leaning towards mid size, not so much afraid of the size accident wise but we travel to the East Coast quite often and comfort/ room is something I worry about, looking at Toyota Camry and Dodge Avenger.... Prefer the Camry but have a line on an Avenger I may not be able to walk from....

Go Buick. You will be driving in a tank. A comfy and economical tank at that.
