What is the norm in the UK as far as breeders go? I actually have no idea if it is similar as here in the US.

Just like you sometimes can't judge a movie by it's trailer.. you can't judge a breeder by their ad.

Yea, sometimes these ads/movie trailers are so bad they pass judgement on THEMSELVES but you can't know for sure until you speak to them...
or watch the movie.

my metaphors are all wonky this evening but bottom line, I would find those with ads that aren't horrendous if you do want to go with this site (I mean, puppies in tea cups kind of horrid) and email them health testing/temperament/health guarantee etc.. questions.

Personally? I would just start with the breed club

The main thing which would concern me in that ad is that both parents are specifically described as working Whippets. Which is likely to mean that they are a bit on the intense side, and might not be the best choice if you're looking for a docile house pet.

That and that. Mia's breeder has posted ads on those kinds of websites. Heck Mia was advertised on one of those as a pup. Don't know if she does ads like that now. I found her through the breed club though and had known about her dogs/kennel for years before.

I admit, if I ever do breed a litter. I will probably post it on puppyfind or someplace like that. As far as the first whippet ad. There isn't enough to go on in the ad other than the fact that they don't know how to spell brindle right. There are no pictures of the of the parents, it doesn't say what kind if any health testing was done on the parents. I can't say if the sentence structure is the ad place itself or them. But on what they posted alone, I would skip right on by that one.

Just so it doesn't get lost in the debate. Hedwig, go to the link I last posted to look for a breeder. Champdogs is a great website.

And to add about the kennel club assured breeder scheme. It does offer some reassurance that the breeders are ethical. They have to meet certain criteria and have personal visits from the kennel club.

And yes there is health testing, you need to search for the dog on the kennel club website. You'r going to struggle to find all singing, all dancing breeders like you do in the us, its just not like that here.

I just need a bit of help spotting a good breeder from a bad one as im clueless.
I would have said that these breeders were midfield. They are not as bad as the last breeders but they could be better.

I doubt that i will get a pup from them anyway. A rescue is not out the question either. Looking at whippet rescues in uk which actually seem few and far between ?

If i see a breeder i will ask your opinions first lol
