1. It depends on how clean your dog stays and if your dog stays flea-free. Some people object because of a theory that it erodes the dog's sense that you are the alpha. Personally, I think a great compromise is a nice, warm, comfy dog bed right next to yours.

2. See #1.

3. It's a good idea to get your dog used to going to bed by the time you do, that way you don't have to worry about what they're up to if you go to bed and they're still up and roaming the house.

4. If you want to kiss your dog, go ahead! It's just affection. Just be sure your dog understands and doesn't think he/she's being threatened.

5. A Lab is a great pet, but will need quite a bit of exercise. I don't think it matters whether your dog is male or female, especially if you get it neutered or spayed just as soon as it's old enough.

I'd really recommend going to a shelter and maybe adopting an older puppy or a grown dog, especially if you're in school. You won't have to spend so much time on housetraining and other baby-puppy tasks. You'll also have a good idea of how big the dog is going to be and what kind of disposition it has.

What does that mean, does it mean the dog will try and mate with you? And how can i try and persuade her? i really really really really really want a dog?

I just read an article today that said dogs should sleep in your bed because they do like sleeping with the 'pack'. Like Renee said, they should be very clean and free of fleas. This article mentioned sprinkling lavender essense oil around to soothe and relax (great for dogs and humans) and it is a natural flea repellent. I love lavender......wouldn't mind a little of that scent to rub off on my pups.

(I think we need a king size bed!!) somebody mention that to Santa.

No, it just means your dog will think IT'S the boss instead of obeying you.

Try to persuade who? Your mom? Oh, that is a hard one trying to persuade the mom. (if that is the case) How old are you? I guess if you are trying to persuade the mom, you just need to show her you have a good sense of responsibility and prove to her that you are willing to be responsible and be the one who takes care of the dog. A dog is a lot of work. Besides feeding and watering, you need to be sure to exercise it, bathe it, give it attention. Mine wants attention constantly so attention is a lifelong (the dog's) commitment not just an hour a day thing. Renee made a good suggestion to get a dog that is out of puppy stage b/c puppies are a LOT more work than a dog who has already been potty trained. Plus puppies can tend to chew - - a lot. Your socks, your shoes, your title to your car, any papers left within reach (which my dog is so big now it is at about 5 feet (his reach)), your pillows, your wood around the frame of your doorway outside, the top of his igloo doghouse, the vinyl on the actual house we live in, the drain pipes for the rain, the knobs to turn on the grill, etc. etc. I am just trying to give you a good idea of what they can destroy b/c you can think all day of how you will keep stuff put up so they can't get it and chew on it, and they will think to chew on the one thing you never thought of. What I am saying is that just be ready for this and prove to your mom that this is what you want and you are willing to take the responsibility. These things are going to happen no matter how much you are prepared so it really falls to how willing you are to deal with it.

I hope that it works out for you, I just wanted you to know how much time and effort it takes to have a dog. There are so many people in my neighborhood who have dogs and don't walk them or leave them tied in their garage and you just have to be ready to have one so that does not happen to them. Good Luck!

4 hamsters! It sounds like you will be able to prove to your mom how responsible you can be. Hamsters are so cute, and they sound like the perfect pets to get you started. What did you name all those Hamsters?
