Question Are collars a big deal to you?

We see lots of threads about collars. Some of you are really into them. Some are indeed pretty and I can see how it would be fun to have various ones for different occasions. I always try to pick a color that will look good on my dogs when it comes to leashes or harnesses, collars, and even little clothes for my Chihuahuas. But I have only a couple of harnesses for my dogs. The first ones I got were your standard, run of the mill strap kind. And then I "moved up" in the world and got those comfort, mesh kind. Chuli has a little shirt thing that doubles as a harness. But these mesh ones I use almost exclusively. Black for Chuli and blue for Jose`. The only time I might use their old strap ones is if it's really super hot outside. I think the mesh ones seem kind of hot.

Some owners benefit from various kinds of training harnesses or collars, show leads, or they might splurge and get leather after never having that kind before. And some of you, I've seen have a huge array of attractive collars. I see threads about collar obsessions. LOL. I think that's so funny to have a kazillion different collars.

What I mentioned...those couple types of harnesses is all I have and I really have no interest in buying more....that is................................unless they come out with some high tech thing with bells and whistles that I simply can not live without. I don't care about more colors, designs or different fabrics. These work fine, except Jose`'s is a little loose on him and his foot sometimes gets caught up in it. That can be a problem on uneven ground. He could hurt himself, but he usually manages to slip it right back out. So, if I ever found a comfort harness that actually fit him like a glove, I'd spring for that.

So, who of you have one, maybe two kinds of collars or harnesses that work fine, aren't worn out and you don't care about different fashions or having lots of different colors? And who really likes to collect them and use a different collar every day or so? How many do you have and do you want more?

Poll to follow

I LOVE collars, BUT I simply can't buy them all the time because with my dogs you can't see them so buying a pretty or awesome collar is pointless if my dog can't show it off.

I also use a black harness on Cali, the one with the mesh like material going across the chest so that the pressure is there and not her neck.. since she does get a little excited and often pulls if she sees a bird or squirrel. I have a matching striped collar on her though as well with a matching leash, plus her Fetching Tag. I'd like to get her a nice collar from Paco some day though.

Moses on the other hand, has a sparkly turquoise collar because I'm not too worried about him hurting his neck with it since he's a medium sized dog and usually walks alongside me. Some might argue that it's not too masculine, but his tail was wagging up a storm when he saw it. :P

Teagan has a really nice collar from Ellas lead that she wears pretty much every day. She even wears it camping, swimming and playing in the mud. I probably will just replace that collar with another Ellas lead collar when the original collar wears out.

She does have a harness with the mesh that I put on her when we go on some intense hiking trip, but she usually just off leash hikes with us.

I have a fluffy long haired dogs. Collars are buried in her fur. There is no point.

Duke has two collars. Both are leather, one is from ellas lead and one I just bought from petsmart, a harley davidson studded one. He wears his HD collar every day, and the EL one if I can't find his other one.

He wears them until they wear out. His ellas lead collar didn't last long at all (one swim in the river and it was toast) but his HD has lasted a long time. He does need a replacement though, and I think I'll get him one from caligirl collars. The megatron one.

I don't usually go looking for collars, but I have a hard time turning one down if I see one I really like. Like Juno's current collar. She did not need one, I had no intention of buying one... but when I saw it on the end cap at Petco all I could think was OMG NEED. NOW. It just looks too fabulous on her and fits my own personal style too much to not have it.

With Lucy I don't care because you can't really see collars on her. And she doesn't go anywhere anyway.

Meg has a big stash of collars from when I was really into them. I'd let her pick her own collar out every day (shut up). Gusto has...2. He'd only have one, but I was trying to find one that wouldn't rub on him.

I'd like to get both of them a nice leather collar and be done with it. I have the collars picked out, just waiting for the funds. I'm working really hard to pay my car off, so that may be my treat when I do

Both have at least one harness - they wear harnesses on the sailboat so they are easier to grab if they need help. Gusto has two in different styles, Meg just has one.

Both have an agility martingale/leash combo that they wear for training/trials so I don't forget to take their collars off.
