Only 3 or so weeks for the moment. Not sure about the blue/grey part of it. Wasn't sure how the ticking/roaning worked in ACD's or if the Border Collie side might have blue in there? No clue. Some of them look like they have darker spots and lighter spots, so I really just assumed ACD roaning. It's a bad picture, though, and we'll find out Wednesday.

These weren't intentionally bred pups, if that's what you're asking? Just random momma stray/farm dog/whatever you want to call it.

The blue roan ACD puppies look like little holstein cows until the ticking comes in, sort of like how dalmation puppies start out white. At least, the ACD puppies I've seen were like that.

Really pretty though, can't wait to see what they're like. Congrats!

Hmmm. Well, if they really are blue, then, there might be a problem. If Momma is BC/ACD, Daddy couldn't have been a Boxer like we are guesstimating. Or at least not to the blue pups. I can't think of any other coat color that comes in blue/gray at birth or shortly afterward, either.

Hopefully I can get this straightened out! If there is ANY possibility these pups have Pit in them, we can't take one. We want a forever dog, and if a little girl grows up looking Pitty, USAF wouldn't allow her on base...that can cause some problems.

Thanks for mentioning that! I honestly didn't know that about ACD's. And even if Momma is blue herself, isn't dilution recessive? So daddy had to have had it too? That narrows down the breed/mix he might have been a bit.

The entirety of the color of the picture looks "off" to me, enough for me to say it's possible they're red or sable in person, and the color you're looking at is bad tine in the camera.

Can't wait to see more of them.

Blue in ACDs is not a recessive (dilute) blue. It's just black in the form of heavy ticking. I can't tell color at all from that picture.

Do you think having a boxer mix (with the other breeds) would count as a 'pit bull'? I know a lot of boxer mixes look very pit bullish and often get caught up in BSL. Especially if you don't know who the sire is and can't prove for certain that daddy wasn't a pit bull? It's hard to tell breed of course at this age but I'd say there's a decent chance it could look 'pitty'.

Awww, they're so cute! It'll be so interesting to see what they look like once they're out of that "hamster" stage!

Aren't you guys still moving to Italy?

Without even mixing the boxers often look pit bull enough for bans. I'd avoid any bull breed or mix (looks) there of, including boxers, and stick to a lab/border collie or something like that.

Me too, hence my apprehensive response, I was pretty sure on USAF bases you're not allowed out bulls. :-/

Oh I was just curious if they had an interesting story mostly LOL

And yea, ACDs are born white except for any solid color patches and the ticking comes in as they age - the dalmatians waaaay back contributed that nifty feature.

Some pics of ACD pups here: http://www.australiancattledog.com/puppy.htm
