Default Microchipping

Ok I put this in the breeding thread because ita about chipping pups before they leave the breeders home.

Here in the Uk pups tend to be done at about 12 weeks for Jacks because they are so small and that is what vets and rescue advice.
I contacted the microchipping company that my vet deals with before my last litter was born and i was told different things by different people, I would of loved to chip them before they left here, but was told that only the new owner could do this my one member of staff and another said I could but it wouldn't cover me for what I wanted which was to know if they changed ownership or went to rescue then i would be told so I could pick up the dog and decide as its breeder what i felt was best for it.
I have learnt that some breeders chip their own pups but we are not allowed to do that here, it has to be done my a vet etc., which adds to the expense which doesn't bother me but that is one of the reasons I think they do that. all my dogs are chipped, but i would like to have more control with my future litters and to be kept informed on the dogs whereabouts.
Does anyone have any advice of woh i can contact or what is allowed here in the Uk, and also what you have done to make sure your pups don't end up in the wrong hands?

Thanks in advance

Sam

I chip my puppies at about 8 weeks. It is not much more than getting an injection. They needle is a bit larger bore, but not horrendous. I've had a couple of puppies squeak at the puncture of the needle, but most don't give any indication that it bothered them at all.

The puppies are chipped with MY information. I do not allow this to be changed. If the new owners want their information in the dog, they need to get another chip. My information stays in the dog so that if it ever ends up in a shelter or rescue I will be notified, as well as the actual owner.

As far as keeping in touch with the owners, I have a clause in my contract that they are required to keep me updated with their current correct address and contact information. In this day of computers, it's a lot easier to keep in touch with email.

thanks, but here vets and the petlog company that is used here, says pups can be microchipped only after their vaccinations are compleated which here which by that time they will be 12 weeks old, i have emailed the company and i am waiting for a reply, as for doubble chipping i dont know if this is allowed here either, there are so may different rules in different places its hard to keep up, sadly all of the people that have my pups dont have the internet I wish they did. i have writen a letter to the two people I havent had any contact from inclosing pics, then i thaught about offering to pay for the chipping, what do you think? i thaught I had everything covered when i sold my babys, but I guess there is a few things I didnt think about this will all change with any furure litters

That's a great idea! Keeping the old chip for your info on it...

I discussed this with my vet before I start breeding and they both advised between 6-8 weeks is good for shepherds. I am doing the microchips because they cannot be removed where tatooing, I have seen dogs with ears cut off to remove the tatoo...sick people.

End of mar begining of apr we should be breeding, if all goes well. Vet appointment for pre breeding check up is end of Feb.

Ok.

I have to ask.

What dogs are you going to be breeding, and why?

Been answered many many times...go back through my posts and you will see the battles. Sorry but there is no more battle left in me, I have already decided with my vet and mentor what is going to happen.

Sorry Gallien...here in Canada there is no law about tatooing or microchipping. Must be registered with a tag from your township in Ontario! To register with the Canadian Kennel Club...either tatoo or microchip is acceptable.
