What does everyone use for toothpastes?
1 - just because I'm curious 2 - I've heard fluoride is now bad for you and can be detrimental to oral care...? Some light shed on this would be interesting. I currently use Green Beaver's anise flavored toothpaste - it's fluoride and chemical free - I like that it's eco friendly too. Before this it was Aquafresh and Darphin's denblan ($$$ but quite nice - contained fluoride though). Marvis toothpaste I used as a kid, surprisingly it was available for dirt cheap in Hong Kong stores and in Vancouver - Chinatown "general" stores (it was the real stuff too - no counterfeit) way back when. That was nice - but very strong tasting. Is fluoride really bad for you though? I've brushed with toothpastes containing it and I've drank tap water - my health doesn't seem any worse for it *shrugs*.

Jason Sea Fresh toothpaste. No crap stuff in it at all. I used to use Weleda brand calendula toothpaste but can't find it any more. Out of all of them, it made my teeth and gums the most healthy but I like the Jason one too. It keeps me from having morning breath. Woot!
![]() ETA: I grew up in the era of fluoridation, where they had fluoride gargling clubs at school and the dentists convinced our parents to give us little pink fluoride pills daily. My teeth have that gross fluorisis mottling now, and I'm only 29. Bleah. Apparently it will never go away, but I'm staying totally away from the stuff as much as is in my power from now on. |

I use elmex/aronal. Probs tells you nothing, because it's a german brand.
Basically you can buy them in a set - you get 3 different toothpastes - Aronal for the morning, Elmex for the evening and an intensive cleansing toothpaste for every other day. No florid in there either. My teeth feel awesome using that stuff.

I use Toms of Maine.... don't really know what "formula" but this one looks familiar:
http://www.tomsofmaine.com/products/...ing-toothpaste Look, it's fluoride free too. Really I just use it for the flavor. I don't care if my toothpaste is natural or whatnot. It cleans my teeth just as well as any Crest or Aquafresh has, but it doesn't leave a horridly strong mint taste in my mouth. I can drink a glass of OJ after brushing my teeth without wanting to gag, and that to me is huge lol.

Romy,
Fluoride pills?? Wow, I never knew it was so 'trendy' at any point in time. Our childhood oral care routines consisted of 20 seconds of brushing, spitting out the foam and rinsing with water then running out of the bathroom before dad would storm in to drag us out! Ahh elementary school mornings - how I don't miss thee.

Hm. I dunno. I typically pick up the cheapest thing with the most listed benefits.
Toothpaste was never on the top of my priorities list. Can't use Crest though. Burns the crap out of my mouth.

Well, I find this recipe online on how to make your own toothpaste and it's very simple. Baking soda, sea salt and some peppermint for it to have a flavor. Really simple and natural. I might try it this coming weekend 'coz my gums are bleeding again. |

I can't find any recent info about it being bad for your teeth and my dentist still promotes it... so it's kinda odd.
And yeah I have gum disease, but I doubt it's from brushing too much (I'm still a brush 30 seconds once a day kinda gal, I have an electric toothbrush though). |

I use Colgate - I'm sensitive to flouride so can't use ones with more flouride in them or my gums get inflamed. I tried natural toothpaste once, hated the taste and consistency, so went back to Colgate.
