Default Tick borne diseases?

What should I watch for when it comes to tick borne diseases?

Marlee was infested when she came into shelter/rescue, and she acts... off. I just can't put my finger on it :-/

Not really relevant to this thread but apparently they have freaky paralysis ticks in Australia. Ya, get bit by one of those suckers and you go paralyzed. As if my fear of ticks couldn't get any worse.

That is one of what was 5 but is now 6 tick borne illnesses. The rash only presents in a small percentage. Ask if your person for the western blot test. I do not know what they call it for people.

Here's something else I found interesting. There are many different kinds of ticks, not all carry Lymes. That article you posted Smkie, really drives home the seriousness of these various diseases ticks can carry...really, really awful.

After fighting this for 5 years I have read, been sent, blah blah more info on tick born illnesses than I ever cared to read. That pdf file is the most informative. Getting the right test, learning that a couple weeks of antibiotics is NOT enough, that it forms a cyst and can lie dormant and come back is really important to understand. You can have a dozen people with a dozen different symptoms and they can all be lyme..or masters disease, or babasia..and on and on and on. Get a vet that is well informed. I had one tell me "we don't have lyme in Missouri" when I was on year two and knew at least 5 people from the same area that caught it in the same area. I had the bullseye rash of all time, big as a dinner plate with red lines running through it, and my general practice Doctor told me "don't know what bit you". Later i got to hear, something is wrong with your immune system. You must have lupus, here have some steroids.
They just rolled out the red carpet.

Wear your tick protection, be informed. It just isn't time for denial if you care about the rest of your life at all. I will never get back the time that I have lost, and my poor stomach after all of this, I am amazed it hasn't given up the ghost. I am chronic, it almost did me in and thank goodness I was able to find a Doctor willing to treat me. He teaches in Columbia about immune systems and has been essential in keeping me going.
I hate ticks.

Just to put the icing on your tick cake, that can happen in the US, too.

Tick borne diseases act very differently in dogs than they do in people. In the vast, vast majority of cases dogs do not get sick at all or have mild disease.

I ran this by an infectious disease guru and they were not even sure if ferrets could GET lyme, they've never seen it. Do you have deer ticks there? Not all ticks spread lyme and other tick borne diseases.

Smkie, I know you've had one hell of a time with this. I do hope things are being managed better. Yeah, that doctor who gave you steroids....Wrong thing to give for this immune system wrecker.
