Personally, I'd be going to our vet. Pronto.

I think you can brace tails to rear legs - but yea, vet first to make sure it doesn't need to be set first.

What will they do for it? I'm waiting for a call back from the vet right now, he gets in at 8 am. Said tail was closed in a door about a week or so ago and we weren't sure anything came of it, it doesn't bother her and although there is a bump she doesn't flinch when it's touched. She's swimming, working, wagging like normal but although I've been watching I just now see a slight kink in it this morning. I suppose it's probably set as is now unless they rebroke and put it in a tail cast?
My dog needs new owners this week.

Yea they may not be able to do anything since it's been a week, but who knows. It's possible that it was ok (ie. hairline fracture or some such instead of a displaced fracture) and something she did moved the bones more out of place, hence the new kink, which would mean they might be able to re-set it still.

Sounds more and more like they'd just leave it and it will set itself, according to a friend with a broken tail mal & an LVT.
I bet you're right though about something changing because I've been watching for a kink and I've seen nothing until now. Denis was convinced it was just slightly swollen from the impact. ![]() Still waiting for the vets call.

My son stepped on Zeus' tail when he was little and it made a "rudge" where we think it broke. I called the vet and we brought him in. The vet didnt xray, because it did not seem to hurt him (no flinching when touched) and he left it at that. 6 months later, the ridge is barely visible however when excited or such the hair will raise just on the ridge.
Another dog, had his tail crushed & broken severly as a young pup, we rescued him and because it had healed wrong (a curve under his butt so when he pooed it would get on tail) he had to have it amputated.

Vet called and confirmed what Erin guessed. Probably was fracture and it's now contracting and healing with a kink. No big deal and leave it be. Some show people break and set tails but it's more pain than it's worth supposedly.

Trey broke his tail and we just left it (as per vet suggestion). Never bothered him but it stayed crooked his whole life.
