Factory fumes.

Exhaust fumes.

Heavy metals in your water and food.

And I say all this as an ex smoker! You'd have to be standing next to a lot of smokers on a regular basis and breathing in deeply to get the cumulative effect of second hand smoke. For example, those who WORK in smoky atmospheres (banned in pubs here now so no worries). Walking past someone smoking in the street won't kill anyone anyhow.

In fact, alcohol IS more likely to get you killed innocently. Drunk drivers, drunk aggressive fighters, drunk people who leave broken glass bottles around etc etc etc.

I'm ALL for banning smoking in public, but you have to be accurate about it.... Second hand smoke doesn't pull out a knife and kill people. You won't die from one sniff of ciggy smoke. Bit dramatic!!!
This.

Uh ... Someone drinking doesn't hurt anyone? Please don't say that do me, as someone who has survived a serious crash that out me in a coma thanks to a drunk driver, I take offense to that.

&yes indeed smoking is a right because it is a choice, just like choosing clothes or shoes. It. Is. A. Choice. I have the RIGHT to choose to smoke.

The lobbyists have gotten it banned in most restaurants, bars, some public places & most buildings (depending on your area) but they seem to want it "all the way". I mean please, not wanting to walk by, or behind someone smoking walking along the street? Come on

A "choice" is not a "right."

The person who drove drunk CHOSE to get into their car drunk.
That's a choice.
Is it their right?

Somebody who chooses to shoot somebody and murder them - that's a right?

All choices.
Not rights.

So again, please tell me how smoking is a "right."

Thats not you getting hurt because someone was sitting next to you drinking. That is you getting hurt because of someones illegal activity of drinking and then driving. Take offense all you want but you are comparing apples to oranges. Someone with alcohol in a cup, sitting next to you, the alcohol in no way affects you. Sitting next to, or walking next to someone who is smoking, yes, that affects you.

And non related...****, I hate affect vs effect:/ Even though I *know* the difference I still have a hard time figuring out which to use most of the time lol....

So above, correct usage or not?

This. Again, drinking /= drinking AND DRIVING. Drinking and driving, which CAN HARM PROPLE, is ILLEGAL.

Its really not that hard.

And yes, you did use the correct affect

ETA: wait, no. It would be effect.

Thinking on it more, I have no idea. And now it's bugging me.

Effect is a noun. Affect is a verb.

I always remember "cause and effect", and if it's used in the other context throw the a on instead

Lincoln's a jerk and won't let Stryder watch his Degu's. Now he's standing guard making sure Stryder doesn't come back.

Poodles are jerks!

Blah. This morning while getting ready for work I knocked a bottle of dog shampoo off my bookshelf, the cover on it is broken so a bunch spilled out onto my carpet. Didn't have time to deal with it then... so I'm dealing with it now. And omg it is the most frustrating thing to clean up. IT JUST KEEPS SUDSING. The suds just multiple by a billion every time I try to wipe them away. I just want the soap out of my carpet.
