I wonder how the innocent people who got wounded -- by the gang who couldn't shoot straight -- feel about it?

Personally, I'd way rather take my chances with "the bad guy" when the alleged good guys are that incompetent. Or careless. Sometimes stupid needs to take the consequences for being stupid.

yeah & if they weren't incompetant bags (with which one douches) 9 people would not have been SHOT. part of their JOB is being able to shot reasonably well. the shooter shot who he meant to shoot & left everyone else alone. the cops should NOT make the situation MORE dangerous for bystanders. the brits take longer to handle this sort of situation BUT they don't shoot 9 bystanders.
while this is absolutely a fail on the part of the cops involved, it is absolutely a tremendous fail on the part of the individuals responsible for training & qualifying them and putting them on the street.
OTH you almost never hear of armed citizens accidentally shooting anyone (except their assailants) while defending themselves. they pretty much restrict themselves to shooting the bad guy. perhaps if his victim had been armed he wouldn't be a victim.

Gun crime is a huge issue in the US, it's such a controversial topic that will almost certainly never be solved. It's too far integrated into the legal and cultural system now to do much about it.
